Mrs. Ethel Louisa Laubaugh, 65, of 3221 Bross Road southwest of Hastings, died about 10:45 a.m., Barry County Sheriff's deputies said. Authorities were notified after Mrs. Laubaugh's husband William, who is partially disabled, became concerned because she did not return to the house and called a neighbor. The neighbor saw Mrs. Laubaugh's body in a pond about 300 yards from her home, deputies said. Family members told police Mrs. Laubaugh went down to the pond each day to feed the geese, and sometimes broke a hole in the ice for them. Blowing snow at the time of the accident made visibility poor, deputies said.
