They both had an older brother Arnold, and several sisters. They were all born in the Washington township area, in Dutchess County, New York. They had Quaker roots from their mother's side. (Elias Hicks was a prominent Quaker preacher in southern New England in the early 1800's.) Charles A. and Hiram were two of William P. Bristol's sons.
