His parents all his brothers and his sister were born in Barry County. However Fay was born at a time when his family was out-of-state (his father working Road Constr.). Fay attended Hastings schools thru the 11th. grade, however Fay never completed high school due to an illness. He spent over three years in the South Pacific with the American Division during World War II, serving at Guadacanal, the Solomons and Philippine Islands. He was a Standard Oil Dealer at the corner of State and Michigan Ave from 1951 to 1967. He was a life member of O.E.S., a past master of the Hastings Masonic Lodge, F.A.M. # 52 Consistory of Bay City, and a Shriner. In 1934 he married Florence Carlyon, who was born in the Upper Peninsula town of Bessemer. She was the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Bawden) Carlyon. Florence worked in the office of the Hastings Manufacturing Co! . for 37 years starting in 1929. She is also a life member of the Thornapple Garden Club an Hastings Women's club, also a Charter member and a past President of the Business and Professional Women's Club. Fay was a loving father and grandfather. He was jovial and affectionate. He loved the out-of-doors; was a fisherman, and annual deer hunter.
