Tobias passed away Friday, May 6, 2005. She was born September 30, 1931 to Harry and Lota Hotchkiss. She lived all her life in Hastings and Barry County. She attended Hastings schools. She worked for 38 1/2 years from 1951 to September 1988 at Hastings Aluminum Products when it closed. Flex-Fab and Lowell Engineering where she retired in 1990 on a disability. Melvina was married to Harold Tobias and they had two sons, Dexter H. Tobias and Wesley W. Tobias (Lucy), both of Hastings; grandchildren, Teshia (Pat) Wolford of Texas, Shannon (Roy) Neill of Wayland, Amanda Tobias and fiance Eric Brinks of Raleigh, North Carolina, Molli (Ron) Aspinall of Hastings, Raemon Tobias of Kentwood and Alison Tobias of Kentwood; two step-granddaughters, Candy Stow of Hastings and Carrie (James) Livingston of Bedford. Four great grandchildren. Pamela Welborn and Chase Welborn, Cora Lynn Walford of El Paso, Texas, Rebecca Neill of Wayland; step-grandchildren, Trent Neill, Mich! ael and Dillion Stow. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, James Hotchkiss of Warren, Richard Hotchkiss of Alabama; half-brother, Elwan Roberts of Hastings; sister, Faydelia Hotchkiss of Hastings and half-sister, Helen Erickson of Hastings. Cremation will be performed by Great Lakes Crematorium. There will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hastings Elks Lodge.
