Wilkins, age 96, of Hastings, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Tendercare of Hastings. Mrs. Wilkins was born on August 2, 1908 in Hastings, the daughter of Garry and Fae (Still) Townsend. She was raised in Hastings, Ionia and Grand Rapids areas and attended schools there. She was married to Loren E. Wilkins on March 6, 1926. Helen's employment included nine years at Baby Bliss in Middleville, retiring from there in 1971. Previously at the former Palm Garden in Hastings, the former Piano Factory in Hastings and the former Lichter's Manufacturing Co. in Hastings. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and sister. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and especially raising her children. Mrs. Wilkins is survived by daughters, Marjorie Vandecar of Mason and Susan (Mark) Strow of Hastings; son, Donald Wilkins and fiance Connie Myers of Hastings; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and 22 great great grandchildren and two! on the way. Preceding her in death were husband, Loren on December 26. 1999; sons, Gerald in 1960 and Richard in 1989; sisters, Annetta Scobey, Kathryn Murphy, Virginia Main; brothers, Gilbert, George and Russell Townsend. Services were held Friday, May 13, 2005 at Wren Funeral Home with Pastor Timothy L. Oyer officiating. Burial was at Hastings Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by Wren Funeral Home of Hastings (www.wren-funeral-home.com).
