Higgins, age 57 of Hastings, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Mr. Higgins was born on April 22, 1948 in Hastings, the son of Don and Violet (Spaulding) Higgins. He was raised in the Hickory Corners area of Barry County and attended Kellogg Consolidated schools, graduating in 1966 from Gull Lake High school. He was married to Carol A. Hare on August 15, 1982 and has lived at his present address the past 10 years. He was employed at Delton Pole Building Supply and previously had been engaged in dairy farming at the Halbert Dairy Farm in Bedford. Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Douglas HIggins of Marshall, Dion (Melissa) Vrooman of Battle Creek, Timothy (Amy) Vrooman of Union City, Benji (Sherry) Vrooman of Union City; and Dustin J. M. Vrooman of Hastings; daughter, Rusty (David) Gretzner of Marshall; numerous grandchildren; sister, Peggy (David) Himes of Traverse City; brother! s, Don (Sandra) Higgins of Hastings, Philip Higgins of Harrison and Larry (Linda) Higgins of Honor; nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents. No funeral home visitation. Visitation at the church one hour prior to service time and immediately following services at the church. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Hastings Thornapple Valley Church with Pastor Jay Taylor officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
