Sr. Of Largo, Florida Formerly of Hickory Corners Carlton M. Cook died Friday, November 25 at Oak Manor Nursing Center in Largo, Florida. Carlton was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on August 1, 1923 to Hazel and Robert Cook. He lived in the Augusta and Hickory Corners area until 1980, when he retired to Florida. He was a loving husband, proud father, expert carpenter, and celebrated gardener. While living in Augusta as a young man, Carlton and his father, who were both talented carpenters, built the dairy barn that later became the Barn Theater. The historical marker in front of the Barn is a source of pride for the family. Carlton enlisted in the Navy Seabees in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater in World War II. In 1945 he married his wife, Irene (Martin), who survives. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December. Also surviving are his two sons, Carlton (Butch) Cook Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and Robert M. Cook, wife Paula, of Hickory Corners; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a ! sister, Barbara Day of Brooksville, Florida. Carlton has been cremated and a memorial service was held in Florida. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice or charity of one's choice. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 12/2/2005.
