Here is another Larabee/Stanton connection. My husband's relative, Jalo Corwin, was the son of Philander Corwin and Hulda Polly of Barry Township. Hulda's second husband was John Larabee, who died in 1865. A transcription of John Larabee's will may be of interest to some people on this list. Also below is a family group sheet of Jalo Corwin and Sarah Stanton, which has Stanton information. Corwin, deceased, was held in the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00, Rev. N. P. Brown officiating. Obituary notice will be given later. [The Hastings Banner, May 8, 1919] OBITUARY Sarah Jane Stanton was born in Orange Co., New York, May 25, 1844, and died at her home in Delton, Saturday, April 26, 1919, aged 74 years, 11 months, and one day. When nine years of age she came to Michigan with her parents, who settled in Barry Township in Barry County. In 1860 she was married to Irwin Tenike, who later enlisted in the army and was killed in battle. To this union twin girls were born, Emeline, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Adeline Clark, who still survives her mother. November 28, 1865 she was again united in marriage to J. W. Corwin. Three sons and two daughters came to bless their home. William, the first born, was accidentally killed when only 9 years old, a shock from which his mother seemed never fully to recover. Charles and Edwin of Battle Creek; Mrs. Rose E. Sprague and Mrs. Estella Kelley, of Delton, are the remaining children. Six years ago they left the farm in Barry and moved to Delton, where two years later in March her husband died. She was confined to her bed for a number of weeks previous to her death. All that medical skill and tender care could provide was done, but was unavailing to bring about her recovery. She was a member of the First Spiritualist church of Battle Creek. She was a good woman, loved and respected by all who knew her. She leaves five children, a number of grandchildren, one brother, Calvin Stanton, and a sister, Mrs. Harriet Bailey, both of Cedar Creek, with many other friends and relatives who will mourn her loss. The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, April 29th at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. N. P. Brown, pastor of the Methodist church. She was buried in the Cedar Creek cemetery.
