Harnden, age 17, of Hickory Corners, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, in an auto accident in Kalamazoo County. He was born October 13, 1987, in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to Battle Creek in 1991 and Hickory Corners in 1999. He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Sarah Harnden, and sister and brother, Ellie and Oliver Harnden, all of Hickory Corners. He is also survived by his grandfather, Lewis Harnden; uncles and aunts, Roger and Mary Rossman, Nancy and Kris Curtis, Jack and Kathy Harnden, Kenneth and Patricia Harnden, Carl and Joyce Harnden and Cliff and Glenda Harnden; and cousins, Alex, Maggie and Caitie Rossman, Ryal, Tyler and Zachary Curtis, Glen (Jenny) Harnden, Brian Harnden, David Tilley, Wendy (David) Fryer, Kenneth (Anastasia) Harnden, Amy (Rich) Terpstra, Rachel (Ben) Allbrecht and Ryan Harnden. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Marian Rossman and Verna Harnden. He was a student at Gull Lake High School and Kalamazoo Education for! Arts, where he was recently selected as Young Artist of the Week. At Gull Lake, he was a member of the Marching Band and Jazz Ensemble and was a varsity wrestler. He was also a featured singer at the school's recent talent show "Glitter," where an animated video he produced was the show opener. He attended St. Philip Elementary School in Battle Creek. He was an accomplished musician, playing percussion, piano and guitar and had composed several songs. He played the lead role in the Gull Lake Community Players' performance of Oliver, and also was in Barn Theatre productions of Oliver and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the Kalamazoo Civic production of State Fair. He also appeared in the upcoming feature film, Kalamazoo: The Movie. He was a Barry County 4-H member and won numerous prizes for showing poultry at the Barry County Fair. He also won a Best of Show award at the fair for a song that he composed and performed. Shawn was active in the First Congrega! tional Church, United Church of Christ, Battle Creek, where he contrib uted his musical talents to worship, was the youth delegate to the Christian Education Committee and was a member of the senior high fellowship. He had participated in out-of-state summer work camps with the church group. He was an avid participant and finalist in the 2005 Kalamazoo Teen Filmmakers Festival, as well as the Kalamazoo Animation Festival International 2005.
