The second wife of the Silas Gates I am researching was Myra Nancy Mapes (widow of Byron Dennis). They were married in 1888. Also, 1880 US Census for Kansas, there is a Silas W. Gates, son of Albert and Agnes Gates, living in the same county as Myra and Byron Dennis.

MI History, "William Gates, b. 1858, the son of Noah Gates and Mary (Lathane) Gates of Barry County, MI spent 2 years in Kansas as a young man." I don't know if this would be a clue in any ties to the Iowa Gates family. (I have no family ties - the Glenn Gates family were Hope Twp., Barry County, MI neighbors). The Hope Twp. History does have information and pictures of the William and Clara (Willison) Gates family and home on Lammers Road, Hope Twp., Barry Co., MI.

She was the daughter to Joseph Rasey (03 Feb 1781-18 Jul 1869) and Catherine Bruce (ca 1786- 15 Nov 1863). Eleanor Rasey married William P. Wilkinson on 25 Dec 1837 in Castleton, Barry, Michigan. She had a son named William G. Wilkinson on 04 Nov 1839, in Castleton, Barry, Michigan. I have a strong suspicion that they are burried in Hosmer Cemetery in Castleton Township. I have some articles written by an Historian from I believe about 1850 about William P. Wilkinson. I'll have to find that for you. Steve Owens
