She is probably their sister Lucy who was age 7 born NY in the 1850 census. Their sister Eliza and husband Jabez Chamberlain also live in Hope Twp. Is the Emma, wife of John Doud, born abt 1849 in NY, living in Hope Twp in 1870, their sister Emma? How about Jane wife of Jay Corwin?

I went to the next page "342" and there is another name in the Ashby household that looks like Amasa Dufer? & I think the name before that on page 341 is also a Dufer but with that hand writing who knows. Heritage Quest goes by head of household, if someone has a different last name it will be in the index but if its the same last name it will not be in the index. That makes it hard sometimes to find someone who may be living with a brother, sister, grandparent ect.. I'm not researching this family, just trying to give you a little help. Jeff

I wonder if any else is researching this family and can help me make connections (or not). John Ashby age 49 born in England, farmer Jane Ashby age 46 born in England John Ashby age 15 born in New York William Ashby age 13 born in NY Emma Ashby age 11 born in NY A????? Ashby female age 9 born in MI I find John & William in the 1870 Hope, Barry Co., Michigan census living with another family. Their ages are 10 years more than above (25 and 23 respectively). Can't find the girls but am not sure if they have married, or if the census I'm using (Heritage Quest) includes an every name index for the 1870 census. Can't find the parents in the 1870 census anywhere. Not even under Ashley (which is how they are indexed in the Heritage Quest 1860 census). I'm descended from Eliza (my great grandmother) who is not listed above because she was married to Jabez Chamberlain before 1860. I have some information that shows Eliza's parents as John Ashby and Jane Harwood. If you have any information on this family I would love to hear from you. Thanks Patricia Champaign, IL
