Legal name was George Francis Auber MacKelcan. Thanks! Cosette

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QFB.2ACE/87.314.433 Message Board Post: As recently as the 1880 census, the Frank KENION b 1868, as the enumerator spelled this family's name, was indeed living with the Dennison KENION age 49 family, Mary 44, Myson 14 and Frank 12 were already put to work on the farm. Ora 10 and Sheridan 5 complete that household at Thornapple. The younger two attend school. Put to work at 12 doesn't sound too happy a tradition for a man who'll grow up and raise a family. Who knows. There is another Frank KENYON age 17 living with and farming for the David TOWNSEND family at Hastings. It looks like Dennison has an elder brother Clark, 54, same KENION spelling, also at Thornapple. Both men are b. NY, both of their parents b. RI. There a good 6-8 housholds, either spelling, in Barry County that year. I didn't spot yours anywhere at all on the 1894 Barry Co. MI state census at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mi/state/orphan/barry/barry1894_census_h_l.html One other tidbit that may be useful some time is that DENISON is a NY-ish surname that goes back to a spelling variously TEUNISEN and variations up into the 1700s, I think is when it began being spelled with a D. You'll find given names Denis, Denys, Teunis, likewise, up around Dutch Reformed country along the Hudson.

An Emma age 19 was still in Middleville, a cook in the hotel kept by what appears to be stepfather Benjamin DIBBLE from NY and her mother(?) Sarah G, 63, b. NY of CT and NH parents. Not yours? In Johnstown is farmer Willis W age 35, b. VT, father VT, mother NH. Wife was Ellen E, no children in the home. You know that one. At Baltimore, Arthur HUMPHREY 17 is brother to Lucretia 27 who's married with Orlando RICE, 30. Lucretia was b. IN of MA and NY parents. You can likely find your burials at http://www.interment.net, I found mine.

With them lives her sister Barbara FREELAND 43 b. OH. Their mother was b. MD, father PA. 5th door down is farmer Jacob FREELAND 35, b. OH, same parents' origins. His wife is Loretta, 26, MI. A bit farther down is farmer John H. FRELAND, 40, OH, his father also b. MD but mother b. OH. His wife Loeza 27, children James W, 7 & Herbert 3, b. MI. Your James CLARK FREELAND doesn't seem to be on the 1880. You might find him in one of the Barry County cemeteries at http://www.interment.net unless he'd left the state?

Aug 1 1919, NE1/4-2 30 J-West You may find more than I have, I just made a quick run because I suspect we'll make a connection. I forgot to mention that Ezra WILLSON and Anna had an eldest daughter, Anna H whose married name on the 1880 census was MILLER. She and MILLER children Ernist and Alma were living with Ezra. I've no idea what became of them, either. Yet. Also that there was no Irving O GOODENOUGH on the 1880 MI census index so who knows where he was unless unborn and married awfully young. More Trivia from the 1800 census. The BRONSON clan in Barry County have NY roots, may have come in 3? waves beginning 30ish years earlier, the most recent group came via a stopover in OH. May or may not be related, probably are. Surnames they married include WHEATON and HALE.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QFB.2ACE/411.2 Message Board Post: Oops, after having hit enter I realized I could add a little more info for you, those around and living on 1880 census, should that help any. George W farmed at Carlton, he was 33, born NY as were his parents. Wife Bell, 31 NY. Children Elizabeth 11 and Harry 7 were b. NY; Minnie was 3, b. MI. Farm laborer Hiram DURKEE 30 NY lived in their home. Neighboring households were BLOOD and BARNUM, both also NY roots. Over at Hastings is Charles GOODELL, at 32 one year younger than George. No guess at relationship, enumerator says he was b. MI (thus 1848ish), both parents b. NY though. His wife Anna 32 b. England; children Arthur 5, Willard 4, Maud 3. Outside Barry County are a couple of oldies who have indeed been in MI a good while. At Ecorse, Wayne County is Jonas 84, b. NY of CT father, NY mother. Wife Angelique 83 b. MI (wow, MI 1797?) of Canadian father, MI mother. Son Alexander is 33, MI-born. I'm not sure this makes sense but in the house are relatives Julia VALLAD, shown as mother-in-law, but b. Canada, so I think it's maybe Alexander's MIL or another offspring's. Someone's niece Jane STODDARD is 38, cousin Frank STODDARD is 14. Really mixed birthplaces and parents' bp. At Harrisville in Alcona county is another, Alfred GOODELL 77, b. NY of MA parents - with a 30 year old wife Mary b. NY and son Andrew J, 5, b. MI. There are varied spellings also from NY like GOODALE, GOODALL, among the oldies. I'm glad it's not me trying to sort out GOODALL, I've problems enough with my own. Heh.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QFB.2ACE/411.1 Message Board Post: http://www.interment.net/data/us/mi/barry/bowerman.htm Bowerman Cemetery, Bowens Mill Road, Middleville, Barry County, MI has a GOODELL, T.J., d.Nov. 11, 1849 among the BOWERMAN burials and my WILLSONs. The BOWERMAN clan seem to have NY roots, probably came to MI close to the time of that burial because of recruitment for pioneers by land speculators. Bonds formed during those moves may have run deep for generations. Ezra WILLSON and his parents were b. VT. There is a HUBBARD, a few BAKER, and of course the BOWERMAN clan. I think the old guy spelled BOARDMAN may have been phonetically boreman, likely BOWERMAN. Maybe. Notice that "Silias BOARDMAN" d. 1822 at age 74 -- that would sure put his clan in early Barry Co. MI. I wonder if the transcriber found the stone hard to read. The next 1-2 generations of WILLSON are at Yankee Springs cemetery. That's all I've found that may help place your GOODELL.
