Surnames: Bertrand, Kochon, Girard, Pacquette, Fradette, Dufresne Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IFB.2ACE/1050 Message Board Post: Joseph BERTRAND aka BARTRAW, BARTRON, BARTROW etc., lived in Herron (or Wilson Twp.) He was married to Mathilda GIRARD and they had seven children: Annie, William, Mary Louise, Emma, Patrick, Jerry, and Rose. He built the large, dark stone home that still stands on Nappers Road. Joseph BERTRAND was a Civil War veteran who had lost a leg as a result of battle, and was very nearly buried alive as he lay in the field among the critically wounded. He died in January 1896, and his wife received his pension. I am trying to learn the official record of BERTRAND's ordeal; can anyone tell me where I might obtain his military and hospital records? Perhaps with the pension records of Mathilda? Any information will be welcomed. Mary E. Fradette
