Muncey Nov. 5 1890 and it says she was 20 yrs old. In the michigan 1894 census it says she was 24 born in alpena but when she was married it said she was born in canada. I notice that the whole family never got their age's and place of birth right. I'm trying to find hattie in the 1880 census without much luck. She was not living with her parents at the time and her sister agnes was really born delia so she might not have been born Hattie, I wish you luck i know your going to need it. pat

The North East Michigan Genalogical Society's (NEMGS) site has an index of deaths that were listed in Alpena Newspapers. Maybe that is the file he is thinking about. It is quite extensive. jen
Hi all! I've got an email from a gentleman who says there used to be a text file out there with Alpena County obits through 1990, and the file was named something like nec_A_~1.txt His computer crashed and he no longer has the file and can't find the link to replace it. I can't find anything, but thought I'd put a call out and see if anyone had scurried away the link. Thanks! Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IFB.2ACE/1121 Message Board Post: Dear Readers of the Alpena Message Board, Recently, RW Message Boards underwent a tidy little upgrade of the old search system. Its not fully complete yet, but I wanted to point out a few things you might see: -Extra results: now your searches are NOT case-sensitive, so a search for the surname LaCrosse will work with LaCrosse, Lacrosse, LACROSSE, LACrosse. So this means a previous search for LaCrosse might have gotten 20 results, now it might get a few hundred results since all of them have been compiled together. -Random Scripting Errors: you may see some funny codes pop up instead of graphics and boxes occassionally. That's okay, RW is working on fixing it ASAP. Just go back and try loading the page again. So what does this mean to you, IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE THAT YOU USE THE SURNAME BOX CORRECTLY. Why? More people are going to be able to find more results now. I'm appending the message from my Links & Announcements about how to use the Surname box, since people still aren't using it totally correctly yet - and don't forget to put ALL of the names mentioned in your message in the box - you never know what kind of connection might crop up somewhere. Concetta Franco Your kind, but sometimes cranky Alpena County Message Board Admin Here's that message I was talking about: "1. USE THE SURNAME FUNCTION CORRECTLY. Only use surnames if they are actually quoted in the message. Not your name - but the subjects of your message. And NOT the surnames that you are looking for overall - just the ones in your message.
So if I was posting about John Hazelton Graves, I could put Graves into the surname box.
Now, if I was posting about John and his wife Mary Jane (Bonner) Graves, I could put this entry into the surname box:
Graves, Bonner
This will enable anyone searching for Graves or Bonner to find my message. NO OTHER WAY WILL WORK. So don't use -, all caps, /, etc or anything other than the names. It will negate your entry and what you are trying to achieve. And if you put a boat name, business name, etc into the Surname box - it won't be there for long. As Administrator, I will change your surname list to make it more appropriate if necessary (but I get cranky about doing that all the time)."

He emigrated from Canada in 1887, she was born in Michigan of English parents. I'm looking for her maiden name. They had one child, Lulu, abt. 1899. In 1920 and 30 they lived in Detroit. My greatgrandfather John McConnel(l) emigrated with his family to Long Rapids area at the same time. The surname was spelled McConnel in 1900 but later with two l's.
Hi! I just wanted to let you guys know that if you buy an Alpena photo or postcard on Ebay, please, please, please send the GenWeb project a scan and any other information about it. We can only expand the content of this site with help - I can't do everything! With that said, I am also looking for volunteers to transcribe documents. This can be done via email, in which I send you the document image and the template to insert the transcription into. If you're interested, please email me and I'll give you more details. And is anyone out there looking for a particular ancestor? This list is very quiet lately. I encourage you to repost and see if some fresh eyes can help you. Good Luck! However, I do find them on at least 3 census rolls , which will give you a start if this is new info to you. Could not find on 1880 or 1900 census( I honestly quit looking as my eyes were crossing- perhaps someone else will pick up the trail), although there is a similar name in Detroit, but no match with family names. Having had my share of "fun" with my own Bohemian surname misspellings and variations, I imagine your surname has seen many "incarnations". Best I can read. Hope it helps. As we all know, dates and places can vary with census, depending on who gave information etc. I wouldn't rule out a Missouri connection, since it was given twice as Martin's birth place. Unfortunately WW1 card didn't list his birth place. Would also not be surprised if Martin's father is a Frank, given that is middle name. Have fun with it and good luck with the hunt.
