Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IFB.2ACE/1152.4 Message Board Post: By the way, when you go to this cemetery, could you do me a favor? I'm trying to locate the burial site of some ancestors of mine, and have just found one in Green Twp also. I'm trying to locate William W Menary and his wife Sarah Turnbull Menary. She died in 1888 and I believe he died in the 1920's. If you find them in the Greely cemetery, would you let me know? I won't be able to get back there until next summer. I'm in Utah.

Just a reminder, folks, you CAN'T post prices of anything on here. It violates the Rootsweb/Ancestry User Policies. I know it sounds silly, but a message with prices jumps the line in a lot of cases between being helpful and advertising. Concetta Franco Phillipps Alpena County GenWeb

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IFB.2ACE/1152.2.1.1 Message Board Post: When you get there, make sure you go to the library in downtown Alpena (across from the newspaper offices). They have an EXCELLENT Michigan room, where there is tons of local information on past residences. The one thing I valued most was the collection of almost ancient City Directories they have in a separate room. You have to get permission to look through them, but if you can get to look thru them, you'll find tons of information about your past relatives there. They also have much information about cemeteries, obituaries, etc. there. And they are very helpful, especially Marlo Broad. She only works part time, but knows where most of the things are. When you need help there, just ask. They are really great. They have many older newspapers on microfilm and will show you how to operate the machines there. Check out the genealogy room also, just off the Michigan room. And get in touch with the local genealogical society, NEMGS, North Eastern Michigan Gen Society.! www.rootsweb.com/~minemgs/NEMGS_home_page.htm They can also help you.

I have a photograph of that Baptist Church, I think. I have never been to Alpena so am excited about seeing where my father and grandfather were born and to trace our Richardson roots. Your directions will save me time in trying to locate the cemetery once I get to Alpena. Thanks again! Jan

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IFB.2ACE/1152.3 Message Board Post: I found a 2002 Alpena County Directory that I had, and it that are listed Green Twp Supervisor Terry Dickinson at 989-379-4550 and Melony Sumerix, Clerk, at 989-379-2398. They also might know who the sexton for Greely Cemetery is. If they are no longer in those offices, then their replacements should know. They are the ones who usually hire the sextons.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IFB.2ACE/1152.2 Message Board Post: I also went on a real search for this cemetery with a friend whose family was buried there. We went from Alpena out M32 west to the junction of M65 (close to LaChine) and turned left (south). It's on the right side of the road, not too far from the junction. It's a very nice, well kept cemetery with no damage from vandals, etc. The stones are in very good condition. I'd call the Greely Baptist Church people to find out who the sexton is and where he can be contacted. In that part of Michigan, usually the sexton is just a guy who's been hired part time to handle the burials and records. The church's number is 989-379-3614. The cemetery is nowhere near any town or anything, just out in the country.

This is on the west side of the road less then a 1/4 of a mile before M-32. It is not a very big small cemetery. This was the Greely settlement area. Go South & it is Spratt, go north & it is Flanders. Just farming areas. Green Twp is west of Alpena. M-65 & M-32 corners are in Green Twp. Alpena is east less than 20 miles & Hillman is west about 12 miles I guess (of the corner). I have Richardson's in my line also. A Spratt native Vicki
