But, I have to say, because of postings from you and others in this forum, I have found out that the guy you found IS the husband of MY Sarah Menary. I still don't know where Sarah ended up being buried, but someone else found the obit for William, and it said that his first wife had died (date matched MY Sarah!). So, now that I know that much, I have to try to find Sarah's obit in the Labor Journal in Alpena at the library (their microfilms) and see if it says where she was to be buried. She died May 11, 1888. Since I'm in Utah, I'll have to depend on someone else to find it and tell me, or wait until I get to Alpena next year. Hopefully, someone will be there some day and just look it up for me. Thanks you SO much for checking for me.

It's near the bottom of the page and has their name in it. Try using your search engines more. The google one actually gives me less than I like. I use the one you can use on the MSN.com site (you may have to pay for that site) or the one on www.excite.com. That's free. Just type in what you want. Use all the words that matter and leave the rest out. I have put in long searches, like 'alpena michigan death site' if I want it to find me sites that have to do with that. Or like above. When it gives you back a list of sites, look at them all to see which one may fit what you are searching for.

Hi all! I wanted to round up all of the useful links I've been sent lately. Hopefully you can get as much use out of them as I can! A lot of genealogy is filling in the blanks. What were our ancestors lives like? What did they see, watch, smell, participate in? That's why I like a lot of these sorts of things. Pictures, "video", billboards - they give us an intimate shot at what life was like when we were not around. Sometimes things are for sale at some of these sites, but I use them not for "purchasing" but a way to really dig into the lives of our ancestors - in other words, look at people's greed as being a good reason these things are preserved for us to examine. http://gurukul.american.edu/heintze/postcards.htm 4th of July postcards http://www.billboardsofthepast.com/ Unfortunately, this is a "for sale" site, but the images of life in the 1940s-50s-60s are unforgettable. I highly doubt Remington shotguns would be allowed as a billboard these days! http://www.f1-grandprix.com/photos3.html The history of Formula One racing, with great photos from 1950-1969. My father, grandfather and greatgrandfather all shared a love of this kind of motoracing - and its these kind of intimate photos and memorances I love to add to my genealogy books. It makes it so much easier for the kids to understand if there are cool photos attached to it. http://www.firstworldwar.com/index.htm WWI Site aiming to cover the entire war. Very good essays, multimedia, maps - its still under construction, but very much worth a look if you had ancestors who fought in WWI http://www.vintagepostcards.com/catalog.htm Yes, another "for sale" site, but what makes this unique is it offers full views of the postcards, and postcards from not just the US but Canada, England, Italy, Japan, Russia, Mexico in a half billion different categories. Its worth checking out things like WWI propaganda from other countries. http://www.ww2incolor.com/ WWII was not only shot in black and white film, but color as well. This site aims to remind people about that. Yes, they have stuff "for sale" but the best part is the absolutely FREE image gallery with not only war stuff, but stuff from the homefront as well. Hopefully that occupies your time for awhile. Do you have any other useful sites? I'd love to hear about them! Readers, I am so glad to be back up and running! I had some downtime being ill and now I'm roaring to get some new materials up on the Alpena website! Anyway, I don't know how many times I've heard about "blogs" in the news. For those of you who don't know, a blog is a sort of online diary. I wanted to point this out because a lot of interesting things are going up in blogs. Collections of rare photos, ephemera, genealogical discussions, all sorts of things really. Check them out when you have a second! Just search for blog with a topic (ie if you want a genealogy blog, search for "genealogy blog"). Here are a couple of my favorites: http://www.tacky-times.com/weblog/ Tacky Times covers everything from vintage postcards to recipes from the author's grandmother's cookbook to series on the site author's favorite film stars from the 1920s-1950s. http://meggiecat.blogspot.com/ Meggie's blog is mostly about crafts, but she features very unique old photos often http://genealogyblog.com/ GenealogyBlog is full of information about every possible genealogical topic. The last few posts were: Exploring Central and Eastern European Ancestry, Louisianas Washington Parish Library Puts Obituaries Online, Are you an advanced genealogist? Back to what I was saying about updates, I have well over 200 pictures that have been emailed to me in the last few weeks that I will be concentrating on getting up, and then its back to work on the phone directories. If anyone has an interest in me adding something else to Alpena County GenWeb, I'd be happy to start on it! Just let me know your thoughts. Oh, and in case you were wondering, I was married in May, hence the last name change. I'll be using both names for awhile, and then eventually converting over to just my married name to make it easier for future genealogists to piece things together. Have a great day! Turnbull living with her cousin, Mrs. David Spaulding. She is 27, making her birth year 1853. She was b. Nova Scotia, and had been living in Wisconsin with the cousin in 1870. Oct 1, 1884, she married William W. Minary in Alpena. She died May 11, 1888, according to the family bible. But, I think many entries in the bible were put in after the fact. And in the bible, her name was spelled 'Menary'. She would have been about 35 when she died. At that point, I have lost them all. The only William W Menary I have found is one buried in Greely Cemetery, but I now see his wife's name is Anne. But, thanks to another poster, I see that's his second wife. Where is Sarah E Minary? It does look as though his son, Andrew, is Sarah's son, though. But, where is Sarah? Anyone out there have any clues at all?

You may have to have a library card, so that may not be an option. There is also a cafe on 2nd avenue in Alpena, can't remember the name. It's very small, and within half a block of Chisholm. It 'used to be' the old printing studio, so you could ask around there. They have internet access also. But, certainly, if you're going to be that nice and do that for me, I'll wait!
