    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IFB.2ACE/1050.1 Message Board Post: Joseph Bertrand is the son of Gideon Bertrand and Denise Russon. Do you have further information regarding this family?? [I am descended from Joseph's brother Moses.] In answer to your question. Batraw, Joseph Union Infantry 98th Regiment, New York Infantry -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm This is the way the index has Joseph listed. The site might give you the information you need to order his records. I was trying to remember how much the state of New York Civil War records cost. About $6. They have different information than the national archives. The pension file from the national archives will have the most information. Because of the age of the children at the time of Joseph's death Matilda will have submitted proof of their birth. You will want to tell them to send everything in the file. That way you get to decide what is important.

My Rea family lived in Bastard twp in Leeds County from 1821. Some of the early census' show a Blakely who lived next door to my ancestor William F. Rea. Many of the families in the area moved down to the Montmorency county area of Michigan. Might be a connection?

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IFB.2ACE/1056.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I'll check the census later today to see if Peter was in the US in the early 1900's. I can also tell you that this area was not settled by Kashube's (though some later moved there) so you probably can rule out being on the German border. Kashube's settled near St. Albertus and St. Hyacinth (Putzig (Puck) area of Poland). Best bet is to contact St. Hedwig to check baptismal certificates of their children. I also found at St. John Cantius (Delray, MI) a large stained glass window dedicated by the Czajka family but the only way I can find out which Czajka's is through Burton Library to look at the films. I'm not sure my Peter Czajka was in the US in 1911, but I will definately follow up on your information. Did Andrew come to US from Poland? Do you know town/village? We think Peter and Anna were married in Poland and came to US from a town "near Russian" border, but no name of town. Thanks again for all your information.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IFB.2ACE/1056.1 Message Board Post: I have the 1911 directory and Peter is living as a boarder at 36 Rollin. In 1890, my husband's great grandfather, Andrew Czajka was one of two (Jacob, his brother) in the City of Detroit (i.e., they were the very first Czajka's). Also, in 1890, Andrew and Jacob were also residing on Rollin St. By 1911, my Czajka's are on Norton and Hammond streets which are next to St. Hedwig Church. Perhaps if you write them, they will have baptismal certificates for the children you are seeking. As a side note, I believe Peter may be related to my Czajka's. I've also found Michael and Frank to be the brothers of Andrew and Jacob and believe Sophie Czajka who was married to a John Czapski and also residing on Hammon, was their sister. I do find a Joseph Czajka residing on 43 Addison Ave. in 1911 and Peter is now living as a boarder in 1912 at 912 Military Ave as a boarder. In 1913 Joseph is still on Addison but Peter is no longer listed. http://www.geocities.com/jomilu2001

I suspect they were brothers. Abram R died 14 Nov 1898, according to the Alpena City Directory of that year. John M died in the Fall of 1920 in Detroit. Would someone look up an obituary or other info on the two of them? I am trying to find out their parents, or at least where in NY they came from. Thanks, Walt
