Just want to thank you for the help. And it did help. It broke a stalemate in trying to find any more infor. on my great grandparents. Again thanks ----- Original Message ----- From: "John" <circlescape@gmail.com> To: <mi-genealogy@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 27, 2009 11:35 AM Subject: Re: [MI-GENEALOGY] married names Hi Shirley- I have come across that situation a few times and in almost all cases, yes, it meant that she was previously married. However, and I only figured this out after doing more in-depth searching..., in one circumstance the bride's father had died and her mother re-married. She used the step-father's surname like it was a previous marriage. In one census I had found all the children listed under the step-father's surname. That was why I couldn't find the family for that one census. If you look at the LDS site; search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start , you'll see that both Martha and Robert were each married once previously. The one that still puzzles me is the bride that used her sister's husband's name as HER father's name. I just wonder who filled out the application. SISU!
