I have a problem with names in Van Buren County Mi. In 1870 I find Elijah Brown age 17 living with Wells and Eliza Brown. In 1860 there is an Elijah Bruss/Boiys/Buys age 5 and a Simeon Bruss/Boiys/Buys age 24 living in the Wells Brown household. I find that Archibald Buys had a Simeon Buys for a son, born in 1836, who does not show up in the 1860 and 70 census as Buys, but is living with his Sister Jane Wife of Francis Jones in 1850, Archiblad died in 1845. Does any one have any records that would show that Simeon Buys married in about 1853, Fathered a son Elijah, lost his wife prior to 1860, then started a new family after the CW, leaving Elijah to take the Brown name.
