Okay folks - Time out on this subject of caps versus small and list netiquette. Let's get back to the purpose of this list and that is genealogy. If anyone has a concern with what is posted to this list, please send your concern to me and I will address it. Let's not have anymore on the list itself. janacortez@charter.net Let's just try and treat everyone as we would like to be treated. None of us are perfect and we all have our strengths and weaknesses. I'd like to see a roll call on this list at this time. Send an email with Surnames in the subject line. In your message please try and give as much information as you can as to the location of the surname and periods of time that they would have been in the area. Let's try and knock down some brick walls here. Jan Cortez
Looking for information on this family. Charlotte and Julia were sisters. Maiden name: RISLEY/RISLAY and first in US Census in 1850, Black Rock, Erie, NY. We think that Julia may have first moved to Michigan to be close to her sister who died (we don't know when she died) and then for some reason moved on to Corunna. Also trying to place Anna E. Durkee (DOB 1869 in New York) with Julia Durkee in Michigan. Julia in Michigan between 1892 and 1896 (shows up in City Directory for Corunna in 1896). THOMPSON, JOHN N (1870 U.S. Census) MICHIGAN , CLINTON, OVID TWP Age: 50, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: CANA Farmer Spouse: Charlotte age 50 @ Canada Children: Roger C, age 19 @ Canada; Charles age 14 @ Canada; Frank B age 9 @Michigan; Dora age 5 @Michigan DURKEE, JULIA M (1900 U.S. Census) MICHIGAN SHIAWASSEE, 1-WD CORUNNA Age: 71, Female, Race: WHITE, Born: CANA Looking for more information about this family. I have dates of death for everyone except Bert ROSE. Both Anna E. Rose, Minnie Rose Towler and Julia Durkee were involved in a mining company formed in Minnesota in 1906. Anna moved to Minneapolis to live with her daughter and her family after Edward's death. Julia was already living in Minneapolis with her adopted daughter, Anna E. Durkee by then. Edward ROSE, age 86 years. Died 1/31/1906 at Corunna, Michigan. A stockholder for 40 yrs in First National Bank of Corunna and only man who was an original stockholder and kept his stock until the bank ceased to exist a couple of years ago. Anna E. (CRANDALL) ROSE was his second wife. Minnie (ROSE) TOWLER and Bert ROSE were children of that marriage. Theodore ROSE was from his first marriage. First wife died when Ted was 1 month old. Thank you! I am researcdhing my husbands family. The last name is PAYTON This PAYTON family began in Massey, Sudbury, Ontario Canada about 1885. This is the info I have: James Albert PAYTON b. 1851 in Quebec married Marie Louise BISSON daughter of Horace and Philomene (GOYER) BISSON. They had the following children James Eduard b. 1886 d. 1918 in France andis buried in Scotland Albert James b. 1888 . I know that he came to the Detroit area to visit his mother and siblings in 1913 from Sault St. Marie. This all of the info I have Charles D. b. September 14, 1890 came also to visit his mother in Detroit and married several years later and this is all I have on him. Henry H. b. May 2, 1892 registered for the draft June 5, 1917 . died October 24, 1955 and is buried in Williamette National Cemetery, Portland Oregon. Am awaiting a death record to find out who buried him and if he was married and or a widow. I have just gotten this info in the last week. There were four more children born of this marriage and I have all of the info on them I am just looking for info on the 2,3 and 4 son. They have been a mystery for a good many years. Their father James died in 1910 in Sudbury and their mother was pregnant with their eighth child when he died. That child was born in 1911. Some time after that the mother came to Detroit with the four youngest children. When the eldest child James went into the Canadian Expiditionary Forces he states that she is living in Park Falls, Price Co. WI. So from 1916 to 1922 I don't know where she was living with the three youngest children. I cannot find them on any census record and I have not been able to find where she died and is buried. According to my late father-in-law she died when he was 14 yrs old which would have made her death be between August 1922 and August 1923. She bopped back and forth between Windsor and Detroit and yes even Park Fall. WI. She had a brother and several nieces and nephews living in Park Falls. It is like they disappeared for 15 yrs and then suddenly they appear on the Detroit Census for 1930 minus the mother. I have searched births.death records, city directories I have called every cemetery in the Detroit Area and I have visited almost all of them also without luck. I was able to recently locate the 6th child Mary Blanche in Mount Olivet Cemetery. I was able to locate her new married name so then I was able to locate her grave site. I am unable to obtain any more info on Henry Harold because of the Privacy Laws here in the U.S. and the cemetery will not give out any info on who was the informant and where he died at. Hoepfully the death record and his military papers will tell me. I even tried telling the Cemetery people that jeez I found his info on the internet why can't they tell me about adeath that occurred 50 yrs ago? I even said to the man do you realize that even the person who gave the info is also dead now too? Didn't make any difference. I am open to suggestions on how to get this info. I have traced this man from Canada, Detroit, Wiconsin, the war, then Minnesota, I also was able to glean from the SS office here in Port Huron that he had applied for a SS number when they were being given out in Washington State but even SS wouldn't give me any further info as I didn't have proof of death. Hopefully I will be able to discern whether he died in Ontario, Oregon or Ontario, Canada. Right now it is up in the air until one of these places parts with a death record. Jean Payton
