Thanks for the offer, I also have Ancestry.com. With the 1890 not availble on line for Michigan, I though that I would try to see if I could find the 1885 state census. Guess I will just have to work around it. I will have to get to Michigan to see what I could find in the State Library in Lansing. Thanks anyway. Betty-Jane
Hi, I saw your e-mail letter and thought perhaps this might be helpful. This information is from "A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents of the United States". I have the full 20 volume set. They were printed by the Bureau of National Literature Inc. of New York, in 1897. Here is the resolution authorizing the compilation. Washington D.C., August 20, 1894 Honorable James D. Richardson House of Representatives. Wheras Congress has passed the following resolution, to wit: Resolved by the Houseof representatives, the Senate concurring, There shall be printed and bound in cloth (my set is leather bound with the Presidential Seal in gold) six thousand copies of the complete compilation of all the annual, special, and veto messages, proclamations, and inaugural addresses of the Presidents of the United States from 1789 t0 1894, inclusive two thousand copies for the use of the Senate and four thousand copies for the use of the House. The work shall be performed under the direction of the Joint Committee on Printing: Therefore, resolved by the Joint Committee on Printing, That Honorable James D. Richardson be, and he is hereby, authorized and requested to take charge of the work contemplated in said resolution, and prepare, compile, and edit same. The set of 20 volumes continues through the year 1917, and yes they are in as the same condition as when they were first printed. Well finally lets get to your answer. This is as close as I can come for you as the census tables are given in ten year periods. What census's are available on-line for Michigan? I thought before I search for a census that doesn't exist I could find out what was available first. Thanks for any input! 1885 is an agricultural census. LDS has a copy, I've used it for Emmet county. While I'm here I am looking for David Comack (Mc Cormick) in Cross Village in the 1870-90 time frame. I found him as a farmer. looking for births of his children? I have his data before and after this time.
