I've been trying to solve of of my family mysteries at long range. I live in PA now and made no progress on my last trip to Michigan. Here it is. Great Grand Parents James Downs and wife Mary Murtagh arrived in St Clair County about 1848 with 2 children Thomas and Mary. Infant Mary apparently died shortly after arrival. My grandfather Michael Downs was born in Emmett in 1860. A visit to the Catholic Church there and a look thru the parish records turned up an item dated 11/11/1869 where Thomas Downs and Marion Downey were married there in Emmett. Another document proved this was my great uncle, and a niece who lives in Detroit found a copy of the wedding license in the County records in Port Huron. The 1870 Census lists Thomas back living on the family farm in March 1870. Wife Marion was not listed and I couldn't find any other record on her any where. Thomas died in Toledo, Ohio in 1876 and is buried in the family plot there in Emmett. But what happened to Marion?
