Try to obtain a copy of his death certificate from the county clerk's office. Most of the time, the names of the parents are listed on the document, if it's known, in the state of Michigan. Also, if you're lucky, more than Canada would be shown on the "place of birth" page. Try the county clerk's office for the last known county he lived in.
