In December 1905, a woman named Bertha Soles (spelling?) found a baby boy in a church she was cleaning in Lansing, Michigan. She took this boy home and as fate would have it, her husband and her adopted this little boy. Her husband died in approximately 1917 and she remarried. Harold, then took this man's last name even though he wasn't legally adopted by the second man. The state said back then that it was okay for Harold to do so as long as he didn't keep switching back and forth between Soles (spelling?) and Stevens. Does anyone out there know anyone who may have given a child up at birth? The only thing actually known is that he still had his umbillical cord attached when he was found and that the church was a Seventh Day Adventist church. Rumors have circulated among the family that he was adopted out of the orphanage or out of the church he was found in. Can anyone Help me find out who he was? Thank you.
