According to Michigan Place Names: Saganing, Arenac county: it was an Indian settlement until about 1871 when they began to move away and white families began to come in; this village on the Saganing River, in Standish Township, was given a station on the Mackinaw division of the Michigan Central Railroad; Samuel R. Hoobler became its first postmaster on July 26, 1876; the office was closed on July 29, 1878, but was restored on Dec. 16, 1885, but then was transferred to and renamed Worth on Nov. 2, 1886. The Saganing post office was re-established from Feb. 6, 1897 to March 14, 1914.
