Dear Fellow Genealogical Buffs, in this case, interested in Michigan: My great grandfather and his brother William Shepard (b. NY 1815) and Benjamin Shepard founded Shepardsville near Ovid in Clinton County. I am interested, particularly, in information on their descendents (and antecedents). William's wives were: Sophronia Crow (b. NY. d. MI) : six children Sarah Seaver : no info Catharine Knuckey Pooley (b. Cornwall Eng. d.?) three children My grandfather: Almond Gould Shepard, b. 1873 MI d. 195? NY Wives: Jessie Harrison (two children Althea and Elliott) Laura Louise Walsh Marvin (two with 1st husband Marvin; four with A.G.) Any thoughts?
Hello Sue, In response to your inquiry on the Shepard family possibly from NY. I'll submit the following info for your consideration: Samuel Shepard b.Feb.18,1778, in Ashfield, Franklin,Ma. mar. Rachel Cobb b.Jan15,1778, in Warwick, Franklin,Ma. on June 2,1798, in Ashfield, Franklin,Ma.. Around 1814-15, they moved to Stockton ,Chautauqua Co. NY., Along with Rachel's mother Priscilla (Burnett) Cobb, Rachel's Sister and husband Calvin and Eunice (Cobb) Smith. Between1815 and 1830, Rachel's brothers Johnathan and David, and sister Hannah (Cobb) Pelton also moved to Chautauqua County as did several nieces and nephews from her brother Josiah Cobb. Samuel and Rachel had at least three children Pamela b.Nov.23,1801, Polly b.1814, and Madison b.Feb.20,1816, those three lived and died here in Chautauqua. If they had more children, I haven't found them yet. Madison Shepard had 4 boys. Lucian, Luther William and Ethan. Ethan married a Carrie Parker from Wisconsin and died in Madison, Iowa. Along with Samuel Shepard, there were other Shepards that moved into Chautauqua Co. around the same time. Given the fact that the Cobbs, Smiths and Peltons moved as families, i.e. siblings, I would assume the other Shepards here were probably Samuel's sibs.. You might continue your research in Franklin Co. (Ashfield) and here in Chautauqua Co. NY. By the way the "History of Ashfield Mass." was written by a Shepard and parts of it are accessable through the Franklin Co.Web Page. Rachel's brother Josiah Cobb, Wife Phebe, and some of his children moved to Michigan around 1831, Maybe Wayne Co. One of his sons, David's wife Betsey died in Livonia in 1845, Josiah and Phebe probably also died in Mi. before 1840, (I haven't been able to find them yet, they are my ggg-gandparents). Some of Rachel's other brother David's children moved to Mi. and Wi around the same time, It's possible some Shepards went with. Good Luck. Mr. Dibean, I have been trying to locate a marriage record with no success. It's for Jack William VanEngen and Marlene Heyboer. They were married in a Catholic Church near Grandville Michigan. The time would have been approximately the end of 1964 or very early 1965. Jack was my uncle who died 9 months after the wedding. Any help or advice would be appreciated ----- Original Message ----- From: Jack Dibean<mailto:jackdibean@modempool.com> To: MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2005 9:13 AM Subject: Re: [MI-Genealogy] Shepard We maintain the Michigan Marriage Index Database that has the following records: WILLIAM - SHEPARD m SARAH - SEAVER in CLINTON cnty 22 DEC 1852 WILLIAM - SHEPARD m CATHARINE L KNUCKEY POOLEY in CLINTON cnty 31 JUL 1870 If these are a family connection we would like to add your email address to the records. Thank you, yes, this William is my g. grandfather and Catharine is my g. grandmother. I have info on her family (she is from Cornwall, Eng.) but very little on William. And my grandfather, Almond B. Shepard, married once in Michigan (Jessie Harrison) and then married my grandmother in Ohio on August 6, 1906 (reported in some newspaper in Clinton County -- I learned this from a distant cousin). Her name was Laura Louise Walsh (sp?)(Marvin)Shepard. I have NO info, except that she was born in MI. None about her family. Many thanks for all you do. -----Original Message----- From: Jack Dibean [mailto:jackdibean@modempool.com] Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2005 7:14 AM To: MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MI-Genealogy] Shepard We maintain the Michigan Marriage Index Database that has the following records: WILLIAM - SHEPARD m SARAH - SEAVER in CLINTON cnty 22 DEC 1852 WILLIAM - SHEPARD m CATHARINE L KNUCKEY POOLEY in CLINTON cnty 31 JUL 1870 If these are a family connection we would like to add your email address to the records.
