Regarding the TW 1 2400 I think that might have been the telephone number of the funeral home. The "TW" was the exchange and the 1-2400 was the number. In the "olden days" the larger cities had "exchanges" that preceded the digital number. Example would be" Hudson 32700 " My oh my, haven't we come a long way with direct dial - dropping the "name prefix" and going to seven numbers instead. Here is a web site that explains all about the old telephone exchanges and even allows you to search their database to find out what a given exchange meant. http://ourwebhome.com/TENP/TENproject.html Plugging in TW for Detroit we get TWinbrook, so one could conceivable pick up a phone, get the operator, and ask her to dial TWinbrook 1 - 2400 or today we would dial 891-2400.
