    3. If you go to the genweb page for Wexford county Michigan, you will find a link to an index for the 1830 Michigan territory census. It might help you. I don't think that Jackson or Calhoun were counties then. Once you get to the census index, if you click on the notes link, it has a link to a map of Mighigan territory in 1830. You should be able to use it to find the appropriate area to search the index.     3. I'd look at land records. Look at the land grants listing at the BLM site. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ click on "search land patents" Also at local land transactions if you figure out which county. And I would look at the late 1800's biography books that some of the counties have - since 1830 was very early these books might mention your ancestor as an original settler.
