    2. Marilyn: Do you know what his wife's name was ? Did they have other children, other than Edmund? What was Edmund's date of birth and place of birth? In a message dated 5/12/2009 11:50:02 P.M., marilynlamping@att.net writes: My grandfather -- Jan (John) Welsand -- was born in Poland in 1852. He came to Detroit (or possibly Chicago where he may have stayed briefly) after 1878, I think. I have found a record of his son Edmund Welsand who died in 1985 in Detroit. I cannot find any other information about him even though I have "heard" that he was one of the founders of St. Albertus catholic church and a founder of the Dziennik Polski -- a Detroit Polish language newspaper begun in 1904. Can anyone give me some clues about where to look for information about him? Thanks, Marilyn marilynlamping@att.net **************Recession-proof vacation ideas. 3. If you go to http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?datestamp=120689 7516187#p=0 And once there, click on the map of North America, it will give you a list of resources. Scroll down this list until you get to the Michigan entries. There are some births, deaths and marriages. Click on any of them, and put the name Welsand in. There is the death you mention, but also a Clara, and a John B. They may be leads. ----- Original Message ----- From: <SCIGSC@aol.com> To: <mi-genealogy@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 13, 2009 2:53 AM Subject: Re: [MI-GENEALOGY] Looking for Jan (John) Welsand > Marilyn: > > Do you know what his wife's name was ? > > Did they have other children, other than Edmund? > > What was Edmund's date of birth and place of birth? > > > > In a message dated 5/12/2009 11:50:02 P.M., marilynlamping@att.net writes: > > My grandfather -- Jan (John) Welsand -- was born in Poland in 1852. > He came to Detroit (or possibly Chicago where he may have stayed briefly) > after 1878, I think. 3. Thank you for that LDS lead. I had already looked at that but cannot find anything more about John's life. I have checked St. Albertus' site and Dziennik Polski's site. Since I live in Texas, I have to request a copy (from Michigan's library) of the microfilm of early editions of the newspaper to see what I can find. I have not yet made that request. Thank you very much for that lead. 3. I have a copy of Edward Welsand (son)'s GEDIS document. John's wife's name is Thekla Welsand. They had (maybe?) 8 other children. My aunt Clara was born in Detroit in 1895 and my father John Jr. was born in Detroit 1897. I don't know Edmund's place (Michigan) or date of birth except that the GEDIS says he was 4 months and 7 days old when he died which would make his BD November 11, 1884, I believe. The family says there may have been as many as 7 other children other than Edmund, Clara, and John Jr. MWL SCIGSC@aol.com wrote: > Marilyn: > > Do you know what his wife's name was ? > > Did they have other children, other than Edmund? > > What was Edmund's date of birth and place of birth? > > > > In a message dated 5/12/2009 11:50:02 P.M., marilynlamping@att.net writes: > > My grandfather -- Jan (John) Welsand -- was born in Poland in 1852. > He came to Detroit (or possibly Chicago where he may have stayed briefly) > after 1878, I think.
