Looking to see if anyone is from or near the Old City of Port Crescent. I'm told there is a cemetery there with a lot of Schleglemilch's buried. Am looking to find picture of gravestones or just names, dates and places. Any help would be welcomed. Nancy
Peni, My best guess would be in Lansing at the vital records or maybe where they do the licensing. Or maybe even the county where he would have set up shop. I'm not sure right off hand what county Monroe is in could possibly be Wayne co. I live in MI and I am not really sure but that would be my best guess. Maybe someone else out there would have a better idea. But thought that might help. Char, I probably will have to go that route… tried it with Cook Co, IL …think it cost me close to $20 for nothing…they sent me a D/C of a 17 yr old boy. Incidentally, during the "big one" I spent some time at the Naval Air Station in Livermore, CA …enjoyed learning how the town got it's name. They tell me the station is gone now …just a semblance of the tarmack left… to remind we old timers …that once upon a time there was a huge navy flight training base there. Hi Vivian. What an awesome find! You could consider donating these to the Mecosta library or historical society. That way they would be accessible to many researchers. Donna
Thank you Vivian for posting your article about the found pictures. They are not my relatives, but I just discovered that a desk drawer of such treasures were left behind during the sale of the family farm in the 1960's. The last name was WAISANEN and the farm was Rt. 2 Daggett, Menominee County, MI. I sure wish someone had those papers that were disregarded so many years ago. Thanks for being so kind. Hi, This is for anyone who has ancestors living in MI. In the Mecosta co. or surrounding areas. We were at a yard sale yesterday in Big Rapids and I found a scrap book that they were selling and found four pictures in the book. Didn't know why they were selling them unless they found them a house that they bought. The first picture looks to be about maybe in the very late 1800's to the early 1900's as the dresses are knee length. There is a log cabin behind them with a barn next to it. There is two men and two women with a child about 3or 4 years of age. and on the back is written grandpa and grandma Benkerski or Benherski and Aunt Hattie, Vernon or Veron, Char Slakajlys. It is hard to read the writting so maybe actually spelled differently. Two of the other pics are senior pictures one of Tom Stefonek 1964 and Bernard Schulz graduate 1949. And the last picture is a group pic of Rhinelander's Junior High School Band. Class of 1949/1950. If anyone who maybe related to these families please let me know and I will give you the pictures. I did not want them to get throw out as so many do. Sorry that this is so long. Vivian Brandal

Dear Karin, Yes, I now could believe the Armet surname could be Arnott/Annet/Annett or any semblance of such. His father (we have believed for decades) was George Long. Now, appears it could be Edward, Edwin, Edmund (as 1st name and Geo, a middle one; or vice versa). By any name… he remains my great granddad. He, along with Agnes, had at least 1 issue… Geo Washington Long, b. 30 Mar 1851 in Canada; imm 1869; marr. Lydia Fluellen Parks in Saginaw on 30 Mar 1884. Only census in which I have found them is 1900 US Census for Reeder Twp, Missaukee Co. Even there my aunt…Lizzie is missing. After the divorce …Geo Washington declares himself… a farmer (instead of a millwright). His residences include… Thomasville Twp… Sault Ste Marie… Osceola County… Harrison Twp… Mecosta County… and others, I am sure. In the 1920 US Census for Chicago, Cook Co, IL… there is a George Long living with dau Bertha (my aunt Bertha?) and her husband Zelotes Milligan. Appears this could be Geo W …but, this Geo has a wife listed… Mary. We question a 2nd marriage at his age. But…………? D/C and M/C on Lydia and Geo W, would indeed help. Thanks, Karin, John E Long On Thu, May 28, 2009 at 10:33 AM, <ladypines@aol.com> wrote: > OK..so to sum up...the thing you are searching for is the birth of George Washington Long, born abt March 1851 in Toronto; mother was Agnes Armet (could this possibly be ARNOTT). Dear Clarence, As one who is deeply addicted to the art and science of genealogy, I personally want to thank you for your input. If other people, like you, would just get a little bit involved… the lives of us geneologists would be a lot more easy and a lot less frustrating. Any "little data" supplied could be "major info" to someone… thanks again. Char, I'm not a usual participant in the emails of mi-genealogy site but do subscribe because I have some people who were in Michigan. I have not had a lot of success finding them so will probably us the web site soon. the reason for this email is that I live in the City of Livermore in California. The city is named after a English ship captain named Robert Livermore who came to this area during the gold rush. He married a woman from this area and farmed here in Livermore. He is buried in Mission San Jose which is close to here. I don't know if there is a connection but who knows in genealogy. Thought you might be interested.
