If I am correct, that would be Huron Co. but I'm not able to come up with anything for Port Crescent. Here is what I've found for Huron Co.: Marriage of Fred W. Schlegelmilch to Mary Davis on July 02, 1890 in Port Austin, Huron, Mi. Marriage of Mabel E Schlegelmilch to Geo. M. Legallee on November 01, 1918 in Detroit, Wayne, Mi. This looks like the daughter of the above. Marriage of Albert Schlegelmilch to Nicholina Nelson on January 19, 1874 in Meade, Huron, Michigan. Birth of Frank Schlegelmilch on May 15, 1869 to Ulric C. & Helen Schlegelmilch in Hume, Huron, Mi. Birth of Lottie Schlegelmilch on June 15, 1873 to Julius & Ellen Schlegelmilch in Hume, Huron, Mi. Death of Albert Schlegelmilch on November 14, 1881 in Meade, Huron, Mi. Parents: C.F. & Mary Schleglemilch. Birth of William F. Schlegelmilch in 1891 to Frederick and Mary Schlegelmilch in Dwight, Huron, Mi. Hope this helps & I'll keep looking for death record for that area. Researching isn't easy. ;) There are two tombstone photo sites, both are free, using volunteers to take photos of markers. Find-a-Grave doesn't have the same photos as the MI Genweb site http://www.migenweb.net/. Under the MI Genweb, there's a link for Michigan Tombstone Photo Project. I have posted more than a few photos for West Berlin in St. Clair County as well as Dryden's Pioneer (a.k.a. Foot) Cemetery under the MI Genweb site. Other volunteers around the state have done as much, IF not more than I. flora -----Original Message----- From: mi-genealogy-request@rootsweb.com To: mi-genealogy@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, Jun 4, 2009 3:00 am Subject: MI-GENEALOGY Digest, Vol 4, Issue 131 ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Wed, 3 Jun 2009 20:02:46 -0400 From: Flora Mcrae <fjm4160@aol.com> Subject: [MI-GENEALOGY] Fwd: Port Crescent Cemetery To: mi-genealogy@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <10AE9DE8-803B-42AA-A189-12DC17760C85@aol.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes You might also want to check out MI GENWEB. Cindy Go to http://www.findagrave.com/ and go through their easy steps for finding a cemetery or a name. This site just keeps growing and growing, and you just might find your family already there. If your family names are not on that site yet, you can request that someone photograph them for you. Find-a-Grave keeps a long list of volunteers who will go out and photograph even the most difficult to find stones. I take pictures in my area in cemeteries that I never knew about before! It is fun, and you have an excellent chance of finding a volunteer in that area. Give it a try. Then volunteer to do it in your own area. It's fun, and a great way to pay forward all the favors that have been done for you. Cemetery at Port Crescent I visited it several years ago, when I was camping and finally asked the ranger at the office how to find it. It is just a short drive out of the camp park to it. I believe it is on the West side of the street, a short walk down a path, in the woods. The grass had been cut and there were many old stones and many NEW ones people had placed there. If you live in Michigan, especially on the eastern side, it is a very nice drive to Port Crescent and the cemetery. A drive up M53 should bring you there or a drive up M25 along the lake is the scenic drive. You can do it in a day. While going up there be aware there is an interesting site at the Sanilac State Park, just east of Bad Axe, where there is an enclosed sandstone rock that the ancient Native Americans drew pictures on. I understand June 20th, there will be a person from the park system to describe what is on the rock. Other times the rock is enclosed with a 12 foot fence and the rock has a roof over for protection. Lots of information is on the signs on the fence. Here are some web sites or just Google Petroglyphs and learn about them. _http://www.michigandnr.com/ParksandTrails/Details.aspx?id=490&type=SPRK_ (http://www.michigandnr.com/ParksandTrails/Details.aspx?id=490&type=SPRK) _http://kyluka.com/briefing/Sanilac_Petroglyphs_Michigan_ (http://kyluka.com/briefing/Sanilac_Petroglyphs_Michigan) Sue Date: Wed, 3 Jun 2009 15:43:14 -0500 From: "Dalle, Nancy, Civ, 126 CES, CEOR, 4878" <Nancy.Dalle@ilscot.ang.af.mil> Subject: [MI-GENEALOGY] Port Crescent Michigan / Schlegelmilch Looking to see if anyone is from or near the Old City of Port Crescent. Nancy My Kindergarten teacher in 1959 was Miss Schlegelmilch. She lived in Port Austin - just East of Port Crescent. I believe she was Catholic - maybe she lived with her mother? I think Port Austin has a Catholic Cemetery? She seemed very old but I was 5 then and everybody was old. Hope this helps!
