Thank you very much. I tried the website for the Flint Genealogical Society and you are right. IT IS TERRIFIC. Again, my appreciation and thanks. Bob Smith
the flint genealogical society website is really helpful for me. it has links to all the things other people have mentioned, plus cemetery indexes, and links to the clerks office, which has a search engine. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mifgs/ >From: usersm8681@aol.com >Reply-To: MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com >To: MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [MI-Genealogy] MICHIGAN COMPUTERIZED OBITUARY RECORDS... >Date: Tue, 26 Oct 2004 18:30:23 EDT > >Have you found any sites at all that make researching GENESEE COUNTY, >MICHIGAN, a bit easier? Kathy, I think you while researching your ancestors have more than one advantage over some of us. You research the surnames you listed below while I research names like KELLY (spelled ten ways) RUTLEDGE (spelled five ways), SMITH and JONES with literally millions of entries for each. GRIN Donald O'Còllàùgh/O'Còllàìgh Kelly PS: Dark humor OK with moa. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathy Londo Barnes" <digginroots@yahoo.com> To: <MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 27, 2004 4:49 AM Subject: Re: [MI-Genealogy] Pictures > Years ago, fresh out of high school, I worked in a > cemetery office. Go, Girl - love to be able to smile all day.
Then, lots of respect you shall have, Kathy! <*grin*> By the way ... I see VANDERHOOF in your signature line. I have no idea how (un)common the name might be but ... there is a town just North & West of here, in British Columbia, Canada, named ... (drumroll, please) ... BUM-bada-DUM ... Vanderhoof! (AKA, in the general vicinity, as "Hooterville".) Cheers - Al
Years ago, fresh out of high school, I worked in a cemetery office. Dark humor always was the norm. Later, as a detective dark humor was the stress reliever. Old habits are hard to break when it's a normal pattern of speech. That's why I'm "digginroots"-I'm always out seeing what I can "dig up". I honestly didn't think of how that sounded. *Blond moment*, must be in the roots-my hair is dark brown....Glad everyone liked it though. With my genealogy research and my background in investigation, evidence gathering and report writing, it's not surprising that cemetery hopping and dealing with all of these (mostly) dead people, just comes natural. That's why I took a bow, when Janet responded. Glad to be of some entertainment.... Going to try to get out Friday to take pics of Laubach stones for Maurice, if the weather cooperates. Me to,ha ha.
Thanks Ric for the information on a Genesee County, Michigan website. I really do appreciate it. Bob Smith
With all due respect, Kathy (and, admittedly, I have no idea how much that might be! *ha-ha*) ... I think you might have been the only one who didn't get that. No offence, though - it's for the same reason that most people should not "proof-read" their own writing. It doesn't look wrong to you because you "know" the only thing it could mean is exactly what you mean for it to mean. Y'know what I mean? heheheheheh - Al
Thanks Ken. I really do appreciate the prompt response. Bob
Hey list-if you saw my response to a request for cemetery photos-when I said, "I'll see what I can dig up", it honestly didn't strike me as a pun, till I read Janet's response below! HONEST!!! Hahahaha.... I had to go back and check to see what I wrote. *Red face* I think I have sometimers disease.... About the only thing I've had any luck with was to obtain (free) a map of Flint circa 1917 it has made finding some of the census districts easier. This came from the Library of Congress they made me copies of Detroit, Saginaw and Flint. Best I can offer. Ken Wood
Have you found any sites at all that make researching GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN, a bit easier? I have lots of Shiawassee County, books and materials but have had very little success up to this time in Genesee County, Michigan. Any thoughts or advice are certainly welcome. Bob Smith

Hello all Could some kind person tell me what information I might find on death certificates issued in Michigan around the 1920-1930's. Where do I apply for such certificates, can it be done online? Thank you Gwenda Australia
Hi Kathy, Thanks a lot I really appreciate that.
wow, such an APPROPRIATE time of year to go to a cemetery and see what you can "dig up!" That made my evening!
