Kathleen, I don't specifically know about Jackson, MI, street address changes but I do know that in 1920 (after the Federal Census), Detroit renumbered all their streets so that parallel streets running from the river would have about the same number at the same distance from the river. Seems too many 1/2 and 1/4 addresses were showing up with alley houses and flats housing additional families on the same property lot. A very good treatis on this is at the MiPolonia website. Other large US cities were renumbering about the same time period, but I haven't found the descriptions (such as for Dayton, OH) or time frames as of yet. Hope this gives you a start in the right direction! --RDReske in Sterling Hts ----- Original Message ----- From: <BUNAY@aol.com> To: <MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 29, 2004 6:26 PM Subject: [MI-Genealogy] Re Jackson MI, Alverson and Teneyck Streets I have a relative who lived at 211 Alverson Street and I understand that the street name changed from "Alverson" to "TenEyck" sometime after the 1880's. I have also been advised by family who did once reside in Jackson that this is a short street. I went to look up the address on a Jackson map through the Yahoo site and there is no such address as "211" anymore. The only addresses on that street that I was able to locate were in the 1200, 1400, 1500, 1600 1700 and 1800 blocks. Sounds like too long of a street from what I have been advised. Does anyone who knows Jackson well or live in town have any idea what happened to number "211"??? Were the addresses changed as well ??? I will be in Jackson next summer and I was hoping to check out the property to see what's there but I need to locate it first. Is there a number for a City Clerk that deals with street and number changes for the city. Thank you for you interest and any help you can provide. I aprreciate it. Kathleen, I was able to obtain maps from the Library of Congress (free) for Saginaw, Detroit, and Flint, just by going to their website and "asking a librarian" the newest of my maps was 1917 for Detroit. Imerely asked where I could find maps for those cities for the period from 1910 to 1925. They have been very helpful in determining what wards to look in on the census as well as in the case of flint my grandparents lived on a street that is now part of I75. hope this helps. Ken Wood

Maurice I went to the cemetery and took about ten pictures. I didn't know if you had ever seen it or knew anything about Coopersville. The writing on the stone does not show very well. It says : Father John Laubach April 5, 1838 February 7, 1884 Acsah May 7, 1847 February 4, 1909 There are two little ones that say "Father" and "Mother" Shall I send an attachment to Mel12130@aol.com Rose l Original Message ----- From: <Mel12130@aol.com> To: <MI-GENEALOGY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 29, 2004 3:53 PM Subject: Re: [MI-Genealogy] Pictures > > > ==== MI-GENEALOGY Mailing List ==== > MI-Genealogy Subscribe and Unsubscribe Instructions > Administrator Contacts, Rules and Guidelines > http://www.rootsweb.com/~migenweb/maillist.html > > ============================== > OneWorldTree - The World's largest family tree. Hi Rosalyn, I did not get to make down there last weekend so I will go this Sunday. I only go on the weekends because parking is free and during the week they charge to park. This way I can do some look-up's for free. I mostly only do look-ups through RAOGK but I know how hard it is sometimes to be stuck and needing a little help, Especially when you are not sure of the county they died in.
