I understand there is more information than just the card in most files. At the last seminar I attended, a few weeks ago, the genealogist said you can get the image from Ancestry.com (or at any LDS History Center) and then write to request copies of the full files. It may take a while to receive them, but you will receive the copies and there isn't usually a charge, although it says there will be one. -----Original Message----- From: MI-GENEALOGY-L-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:MI-GENEALOGY-L-request@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Carolyn K. Search for your ancestor and the card will be under military records. Sometimes the writing is difficult to read. There is no space on the card to designate the name of a spouse; however, there is a space for next of kin The cards also tell a person's body build, hair and eye color.. It will not give the wife's maiden name. All men between certain ages (can't remember the lower limit but 46 was the upper limit), even those who were not citizens, were required to register. carolyn in rhode island Andrea Hadley wrote: >FOR RECORDS FROM WWI AND WWII YOU HAVE TO WRITE TO: >NATIONAL PERSONNEL RECORDS CENTER >MILITARY PERSONNEL RECORDS >9700 PAGE AVENUE >ST. Just returned from the Family History Center in East Lansing. I checked the death index for Mecosta county 1867-1941 - no Mindel anywhere. Surrounding counties are Lake, Osceola, Clare, Isabella, Montcalm, Kent , and Newaygo, Gratiot. I did not check those but if you can narrow it down I will. Pat

I find this very interesting gang .......it's coming and thats so great of news. Clayton CARL HARTMAN, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - The government promises anyone with a computer will have access within a few years to millions of pages from old newspapers, a slice of American history to be viewed now only by visiting local libraries, newspaper offices or the nation's capital. The first of what's expected to be 30 million digitized pages from papers published from 1836 through 1922 will be available in 2006. "Anyone who's interested - teachers, students, historians, lawyers, politicians, even newspaper reporters - will be able to go to their computer at home or at work and at a click of a mouse get immediate, unfiltered access to the greatest source of our history," said Bruce Cole, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. He announced the project in a speech at the National Press Club.
