    3. There used to be a list of diseases on rootsweb.com, but I've tried two different links and neither one works anymore. Probably you can find one by searching on rootsweb or Cyndi's list. Also try this link, and look at the non-rootsweb link re diseases (rootsweb link doesn't work). http://www-personal.umich.edu/~cgaunt/reference.html Carolyn At 5:21 AM -0800 1/7/05, Kathy Londo Barnes wrote: >This was a great list of information. 2. Rosalyn Genung
    3. I am researching the descendants of Christof and Katherina Mindel who moved from Canada to Michigan in 1870. The children's names were Christopher, bn: 1849, who married Anna Hewitt, 1868 in Ontario. Their children were Elsie, Ellen, Lewis, Minnie. Elizabeth Mindel birthdate unknown: Married Lewis Gonyer, children Samuel and Jacob. Christine Mindel, bn.: 1858 married Christian Olman, possibly only 1 child - William. Lewis Mindel, bn: 1860, married Elizabeth Gringrich, one child Rachel. Margarita Elizabeth Mindel, bn: 1869. No other information is known of her. There are 3 others that I already have the information on and would like to have the information about these few if anyone has any. Would like to make the family complete. Thanks for any help you can give. Rosalyn J. Genung in snowy Sand Lake, MI

    2. "Huckster" was a descriptive term applied to virtually anyone who sold vegetables from a wagon. It was not applied to those who sold eggs, milk or butter. Tom

    2. Could the occupation listed on census "huckster" be what was known as a peddler that went through rural areas selling goods from his wagon and also he would trade something from his wagon for fresh baked goods. Just a thought. Betty McDowell

    1. Re: [MI-Genealogy] help with census occupation
    2. A "huckster" is a person that sells something. In my experience, going back before WW2, it was a man that had an open wagon or open sided truck and went through a neighbourhood on a schedule, once a week, selling fresh farm produce. Prices were somewhat flexible, you could make a deal. Today it would cover most of the shills selling on television. It was not a derisive term in the past but probably would be politically incorrect today. Bob in Woodstock GA

    2. A huckster, I believe is a travelling salesman. I've seen it used for fruit and vegetable sellers and the like.
