    1. WILSON family in MI 1840-1850
    2. Hello, List, This is my first post to this list. I am searching for a WILSON family that spent some time in MI about 1840-1850, and wonder if you might see any connection or have any information to add to what I have below. Please read through it. The birth of 2 or 3 children are the Michigan connection: Rose/Rosa/Rosanna/ Rose Matilda/ Mathilda -maiden name unknown. (I have seen her name in various documents in all the listed forms) Born: Ireland c. 1810 Died: after 1870 Married to ? WILSON (probably John) Born; Ireland Died c.1853 1st Child Anne/Anna/Ann/Emma Born c. 1836 in Canada Married Richard Henry Christopher JORDAN in Albany, NY 1860 2nd Child John T. or O. Born c. in Michigan 3rd Child Helena Marie (Ellen) Born C. in Michigan 4th Child Robert E. Born 1850 in Michigan or New York I have little idea where to start looking for the family in MI. So far I cannot find them in the 1850 Census, and I cannot be sure of Mr. Wilson's first name. Rosanna WILSON was living with only the children in Albany, NY in 1855 She was listed as a widow in 1860 living with 3 of her children (no John T.) & son-in-law in Albany, NY. She may be a second wife and the mother of only Robert.

    1. Mary J. Gray/John S. McEntaffer
    2. Laura Steele
    3. I am looking for information on Mary J. Gray born in Mottville Twp., St. Joseph County, MI about 1850 or so. I think her father's name was Edward Gray (born 6-8-1805). She may have had brothers named James, William and Henry. She married John S. McEntaffer born 1-6-1845 in Mishawaka, IN. I know that there are a lot of Gray's around St. Joe, MI but I can't seem to find a Mary J. or an Edward. This is a brick wall for me. Does anyone out there have any ideas or information? Thanks for reading my posting and God Bless!! Laura Evans-Steele

    1. Re: [MI-Genealogy] Mary J. Gray/John S. McEntaffer
    2. To get you started, a check of the 1860 Michigan census shows the following: Mottville Twp., St. Joseph County, Michigan Gray, Edward 55 Farmer b. Pennsylvania Mary 52 " Andrew 24 " James 22 " John 18 " Elizabeth 16 " William 14 " Mary Jane 10 Michigan John Vincent Bellain (?) England Children's birthdates tell us they came from Pa. to Michigan between 1846- 1850. Interesting to note that many neighbors (all farmers) were also born in Pennsylvania. Could be relatives or close friends? Your task now will be to visit a local LDS or Genealogical Society and make arrangements to view the subsequent censuses. If you live near Lansing, the Michigan State Library has tons of vital records you could view. Joyce Ridgway Napa, Ca. 3. Well have you gone to the Wayne County Clerks Office downtown Detroit and looked up the marriage records? When you go there there is a closet filled with marriage books for the time frame that you are looking at and you just need to search through the books until you find their names. Once you find their names the woman that is at the desk can bring you up a copy of the record. 2. How do you expect to get an answer that can help you if you only accept attachments from people you know? Most of us are soooo busy doing our own search it's tooooo time consuming to print out everything we find that can help someone, that's why attachments are sent. I feel blessed when someone sends me an attachment, because its most often a census report and it helped me a great deal. You should have a VIRUS protection software on your computer, then you would be pretty much safe. I use Norton Internet Security and I have never been down with a virus. I've been doing genealogy on the Internet since Rootsweb first started, many years ago. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't know half of what I have compiled so far. Thanks Everyone. I couldn't have done it without you. In a way I feel like were all part of the same family. I would hate to think that we would knowingly jeopardize someone's computer by sending unchecked files. I hope this helps you have a little more faith in the RootsWeb people and have more fun with your computer, knowing that you can protect yourself, and you should, knowing it is a necessity. Regards, Patricia
