    3. Hi, I saw your e-mail letter and thought perhaps this might be helpful. This information is from "A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents of the United States". I have the full 20 volume set. They were printed by the Bureau of National Literature Inc. of New York, in 1897. Here is the resolution authorizing the compilation. Washington D.C., August 20, 1894 Honorable James D. Richardson House of Representatives. Wheras Congress has passed the following resolution, to wit: Resolved by the Houseof representatives, the Senate concurring, There shall be printed and bound in cloth (my set is leather bound with the Presidential Seal in gold) six thousand copies of the complete compilation of all the annual, special, and veto messages, proclamations, and inaugural addresses of the Presidents of the United States from 1789 t0 1894, inclusive two thousand copies for the use of the Senate and four thousand copies for the use of the House. The work shall be performed under the direction of the Joint Committee on Printing: Therefore, resolved by the Joint Committee on Printing, That Honorable James D. Richardson be, and he is hereby, authorized and requested to take charge of the work contemplated in said resolution, and prepare, compile, and edit same. The set of 20 volumes continues through the year 1917, and yes they are in as the same condition as when they were first printed. Well finally lets get to your answer. This is as close as I can come for you as the census tables are given in ten year periods. Guess I will just have to work around it. I will have to get to Michigan to see what I could find in the State Library in Lansing. Thanks anyway. Betty-Jane

    1. Re: [MI-Genealogy] AZEGLIO o ASEGLIO
    2. Natalie, Forgive me for jumping into the discussions, but I wanted to share some information with you. I am quite familiar with Iron Mountain. Iron Mountain is a beautiful area, heavily forested and lots of big hills - not really mountains as you would think. The area was heavily mined for iron ore in the later part of the 1880s and early 1900s. Copper was also mined in nearby towns. Thousands of men from Italy, Finland and the other European countries traveled there to find work. It was very common for the Italian men to work the coal mines in Pennsylvania and then move to Michigan. That was the case in my wife's family. Life in those mines was very hard on the miners and their families. Health care was limited. Many of those men moved on to other, more prosperous mining operations in other regions, but even today the descendants of those early miners live in the area we refer to as Michigan's Upper Peninsula. They no longer operate any of those old mines - the last ones closed years ago. But there are museums and lots of written history about the area. I wish you good luck in tracking your family - and hope you find all that you are looking for. Tim Stark Naples, FL

    1. MI-Genealogy: Connell marriages
    2. I do have the Michigan marriage record for Susan Adeline Connell and DeWitt C. Wickham, who were married on 8 Dec 1873 in Coopersville, Ottawa Co., MI (Co. marriage record #232). However, I do not have a record of the marriages of "Addie's" siblings--Mary Catharine Connell who married William Hubbell--I believe in Clinton Co. during 1872. She also had a sister Elizabeth who was married, but I don't know her husband's name. She too was probably married in the 1870's in Clinton County. Her brother John Connell lived in Clinton County and may have had two wives--an Estella and later a Mary. He was born around 1842, was a Civil War soldier, and may have married his first wife after the War. Finally, I think her mother remarried after the death of her Connell husband--some time between 1860 and 1870. This marriage too may have occurred in Clinton Co. I'm not sure about her name, but she married a Putnam, I believe. (It could have been Mary Connell and Aaron Putnam?) Can anyone help? Marlene Moody

Father and mother born in Italy. Oborto?, David, boarder, born Dec. 1869, 30 yrs old, single, born Italy, miner. Immigrated to U.S. 1894. Geromel, Joseph, boarder, born August 1853, 46 yrs old, single, born Italy. Miner. Immigrated to US in 1888. Azeglia, Anton, boarder, b. April 1881, 19 yrs old, single, born Italy, day laborer. Immigrated to US in 1899. Is it possible that Anton is related to Dominick, i.e. a younger brother? The census usually denotes the relationship, but this particular one listed Anton as a boarder.
