    3. Hi Linda, It's strange but I was recently looking into information about closed adoption records in Michigan. I found the Michigan agency that handles these things. According to them, an adult adopted child can request the information regarding their adoption. Since your father is deceased, there is a possibility that you can request the information in his place. Here is the website; http://www.michigan.gov/fia/1,1607,7-124-5452_7116_7125-14884--,00.html Copy and paste this address into your browser. It should give you the info for ordering your father's records. 3. My fathers name was Loren Ford. His name may even have been Lawrence. He spent all of his time in an orphanage in Coldwater, Mi. He left there around 16 years old.He may have been born in Flint. All he remembered was as a little boy being pulled out of the ice. Then he went to an orphanage. So I wonder if anyone remembers an accident back then. He lived his whole life never knowing if he had any family. I would like to try and find out. I wish I would have gotten involved long ago. 2. SOLDIER’S REMBRANCE DEDICATION We at the General Benjamin Pritchard, Camp 20 Department of Michigan, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War invite you to attend the SOLDIER’S REMEMBRANCE DEDICATION we are sponsoring at 1 PM on May 14, 2005. On this day we are remembering, honoring and bestowing our respect to the soldiers in this old 1 one-acre cemetery. There are 13 American soldiers spanning four wars buried in Gun Plain Township, Allegan County, Michigan’s, Woodside Cemetery. This is just north of Plainwell about 1 mile then east on Miller Road. The wars represented by the soldiers buried in this cemetery are- War of 1812-two veterans, both with new military stones. Black Hawk War (1832) -one veteran, he was a new military stone. Civil War- (1861-65) - nine veterans, 5 with new military stones. Spanish/American War (1898) - one veteran We at the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil will represent the veterans of the Civil War. The Black Hawk War Society is planning on representing our only veteran of that war. We are also hoping to have speakers on the War of 1812 and the Span/Am War also. Maybe some surprises! Re-enactors in period dress representing each war are expected. Please get back to me so I can make sure we included you in our plans if you can join us in remembering these most deserving men and their sacrifices they gave for our country! 3. 1885 is an agricultural census. LDS has a copy, I've used it for Emmet county. While I'm here I am looking for David Comack (Mc Cormick) in Cross Village in the 1870-90 time frame. I found him as a farmer. looking for births of his children? I have his data before and after this time. 3. In our library we have the 1884 and 1894 Michigan State Censuses for Newaygo County. Have never heard of an 1885 state census. 3. What census's are available on-line for Michigan? I thought before I search for a census that doesn't exist I could find out what was available first. Thanks for any input! With the 1890 not availble on line for Michigan, I though that I would try to see if I could find the 1885 state census. Guess I will just have to work around it. I will have to get to Michigan to see what I could find in the State Library in Lansing. Thanks anyway. 1. Downriver Obituary Index
    2. Patricia Hamp
    3. While searching for resource material for Detroit I ran across a set of films available through the local LDS to order from their main library. It is an Obituary card collection of the Downriver Genealogial Society, 1913-1999. Is anyone familiar with them? What I really would like to know is if they indexed all of the obituaries from the area newspapers or just those that society members would be interested in? I have a few people in the family that died in Detroit and that the family can not remember the dates for and are not in the SSDI. It would make searching down their death data so much easier. 2. What area of Michigan was your Joseph Brown in? I have a Joseph Brown who was in the Cohoctah, Livingston Co, MI area by 1840, perhaps prior to that. He was born, I believe, in Ithaca, Tompkin Co, NY June 28, 1818. If this is anywhere close to your Joseph, I would be interested in talking. Bev
