    1. Re: [MI-Genealogy] Otsego and Oswego
    2. I was confused! So, if it says on the Census that they came from Otsego, New York they came from there and not Oswego, New York. And if the burial says Oswego, NY, then it is not Otsego! And my tin ear was hearing Oswego, Michigan but it was Otsego, Michigan. Thank you so much. Even my wonderful Alma, Michigan born husband had it wrong. Linda Swaney Sabin in OHIO

    1. Otsego and Oswego
    2. Could someone explain Otsego and Oswego to us. My husband's Sabin line came from and some returned to Oswego, New York, via Fulton Co. OH. We found the city of Oswego, NY on the map along the migration trail to Buffalo and over via the lakes. Otsego is south and a dot on the map in New York. It is also on the Census as one of the places that they lived in 1800. I was thinking that the name was changed but now realize that Otsego is also in Michigan?? Confused in Ohio. . . 3. Linda, Many places in Michigan are named after places in New York. Why? Many of the people in Michigan originally came from that area. Hence Rochester, MI and Rochester, NY, etc. It seems as if you have Otsego and Oswego, NY down pat, so I'll tackle the others. We have a few Otsegos in Michigan: Otsego County (way up near the top of the lower peninsula) Otsego Lake (in Otsego County) Otsego, MI in Allegan County (near the west side of the state, about midway) But we don't have an Oswego. There are many other states that do, however, just look up Oswego in the Rootsweb Town Search (http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi) In fact, there are more than a few Otsegos as well. But I am a bit mystified as to your query. Are you confused as to which Otsego/Oswego and what state your ancestors ended up in? Otherwise, I should think a query to the NY-GENEALOGY list might help you more. Just a few thoughts. Concetta --- wrote: > Could someone explain Otsego and Oswego to us.
