Jan, please put this on moderate so this thread stops. Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. -Ralph Waldo Emerson Donna Hoff-Grambau
Joyce, Please reconsider resubscribing to the list. You have a great bunch of people supporting you. You will always run into those who think every post should be about their family. I want you to come back and so do a lot of others. Genealogy is a lot of fun - at least it can be if you ignore all those yahoos. I am on a Scottish list experiencing the same type "yahoo" problem. Maybe because it's spring. I don't know what is in the air. In any event, genealogy is something you can enjoy at home anytime, day or night. Please reconsider being part of our list. The majority of us are great people. Do it also for your grandchildren. Regards, Donna
Yes, I did mean to "shout" in the subject line. I think every one of the people who were so inconsiderate owe Joyce a huge big apology. They had better hope and get down on their knees and pray that they have the nerve to at least try to do what she is doing. I am almost 71 years old and the only reason I have not put messages on this List is just for the same reason --- the inconsiderates. You have humiliated that poor woman so bad that now she is unsubscribing. Does that make you feel good? Joyce I hope you reconsider and stay on. Another Joyce

That was an oops...I'm searching for my missing Gibbs ancestors from Newark, Gratiot county, Michigan I found today on a 1870 census whom I believe to be my great great grandfather as a boy...He was Henry Knowles Gibbs...His daughter was Maud Lillian Gibbs b.1Jun1888 d. 15Sep1970...She was born in Newark and died in Clinton County...Her mother was Nettie Mae Oatman but I have no information on her...any help would be greatly appreciated...
I too am amazed at the responses to this...I have offered to help Joyce with her research off this site...I was taught to respect my elders and to help them...She's 73 and just had eye surgery...She needs help not criticism and I think the one that criticized her for "shouting" owes her a huge apology...I believe she has unsubscribed from this site and I think enough is enough...
I am researcdhing my husbands family. The last name is PAYTON This PAYTON family began in Massey, Sudbury, Ontario Canada about 1885. This is the info I have: James Albert PAYTON b. 1851 in Quebec married Marie Louise BISSON daughter of Horace and Philomene (GOYER) BISSON. They had the following children James Eduard b. 1886 d. 1918 in France andis buried in Scotland Albert James b. 1888 . I know that he came to the Detroit area to visit his mother and siblings in 1913 from Sault St. Marie. This all of the info I have Charles D. b. September 14, 1890 came also to visit his mother in Detroit and married several years later and this is all I have on him. Henry H. b. May 2, 1892 registered for the draft June 5, 1917 . died October 24, 1955 and is buried in Williamette National Cemetery, Portland Oregon. Am awaiting a death record to find out who buried him and if he was married and or a widow. I have just gotten this info in the last week. There were four more children born of this marriage and I have all of the info on them I am just looking for info on the 2,3 and 4 son. They have been a mystery for a good many years. Their father James died in 1910 in Sudbury and their mother was pregnant with their eighth child when he died. That child was born in 1911. Some time after that the mother came to Detroit with the four youngest children. When the eldest child James went into the Canadian Expiditionary Forces he states that she is living in Park Falls, Price Co. WI. So from 1916 to 1922 I don't know where she was living with the three youngest children. I cannot find them on any census record and I have not been able to find where she died and is buried. According to my late father-in-law she died when he was 14 yrs old which would have made her death be between August 1922 and August 1923. She bopped back and forth between Windsor and Detroit and yes even Park Fall. WI. She had a brother and several nieces and nephews living in Park Falls. It is like they disappeared for 15 yrs and then suddenly they appear on the Detroit Census for 1930 minus the mother. I have searched births.death records, city directories I have called every cemetery in the Detroit Area and I have visited almost all of them also without luck. I was able to recently locate the 6th child Mary Blanche in Mount Olivet Cemetery. I was able to locate her new married name so then I was able to locate her grave site. I am unable to obtain any more info on Henry Harold because of the Privacy Laws here in the U.S. and the cemetery will not give out any info on who was the informant and where he died at. Hoepfully the death record and his military papers will tell me. I even tried telling the Cemetery people that jeez I found his info on the internet why can't they tell me about adeath that occurred 50 yrs ago? I even said to the man do you realize that even the person who gave the info is also dead now too? Didn't make any difference. I am open to suggestions on how to get this info. I have traced this man from Canada, Detroit, Wiconsin, the war, then Minnesota, I also was able to glean from the SS office here in Port Huron that he had applied for a SS number when they were being given out in Washington State but even SS wouldn't give me any further info as I didn't have proof of death. Hopefully I will be able to discern whether he died in Ontario, Oregon or Ontario, Canada. Right now it is up in the air until one of these places parts with a death record. Jean Payton
Once again, I want this subject with Joyce stopped. It's done and over. Let's move on. I would hate to have to put this list on moderation to stop this thread. Jan
UNBELIEVABLE! SUCH WORDS FOR AN "ELDER STATESWOMAN" OF OUR SOCIETY WHO IS TRYING HER DARNEST TO KEEP UP WITH US TECHIES IN THIS DAY AND AGE THAT SHE SHOULD FEEL THE NEED TO UNSUBSCRIBE TO A BB BECAUSE SHE CAN'T SEE AS WELL AS THE REST OF US!! I AM TRULY AMAZED AT THE LACK OF CONCERN THAT HAS SHOWN UP IN THE BB FOR THIS WOMAN'S PREDICTIMENT. I TRIED TO HELP HER OFF LINE TO GET HER STRAIGHTENED OUT AND HELP HER OVER THE HUMP. UNFORTUNATELY SHE FELT SHE WASN'T UP TO THE CHALLENGE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO ACT UPON MY SUGGESTIONS FOR INCREASING THE FONT SIZE. APPARENTLY SHE WAS ALSO GETTING SOME PRIVATE EMAILS COMPLAINING ABOUT HER "SHOUTING" AND HENCE UNSUBSCRIBED. I WAS AMAZED TO READ THIS SINCE THE ONLY REAL TRAFFIC I SAW WAS THESE STUPID RESPONSES. I AM TRULY SORRY TO SEE HER GO AS I FEEL ONE OF HER OUTLETS IS NOW GONE DUE TO NO FAULT OF HER OWN. PERHAPS I SHOULD FOLLOW SUIT AS WELL AS APPARENTLY THE ATTITUDE ON THIS BB IS NOT UP TO MY HIGH STANDARDS. YOU PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES FOR CHASING THIS WOMAN AWAY DUE TO SOME STUPID SHOUTING RULE WHICH JUST SO HAPPENS TO FIT INTO ANOTHER SITUATION (HER NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE). GO FOR IT! NOTHING WRONG WITH ALL CAPS. NO QUESTION ABOUT IT, IT IS EASIER TO READ. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN RECENTLY THIS IS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT YOU GET FROM COLLEGE KIDS, AT LEAST THEIR ONLINE MESSAGES, NO CAPS AT THE BEGINNING OF SENTENCES, NO PUNCTUATION, SENTENCES RUN TOGETHER, MANY ABBREVIATIONS OF THEIR OWN INVENTION, ETC. MY OLD PROFESSORS WOULD BE TURNING FLIP FLOPS IN THEIR GRAVES. SOME OF SEASONED CITIZENS WILL REMEMBER WHEN AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF WHAT BECAME THE ELECTRONIC AGE WHEN TELEGRAPH MESSAGES WERE SENT OVER LONG DISTANCES THEY WERE ALWAYS IN CAPS! Are there any other Michigan census on line besides the 1870 one?

Joyce do not unsubscribe. You let the uglies win when you do that. They will forget and and there are people on this list who want you to stay. Do not unsubscribe. You definitely are not stupid. The person who is stupid is the one who jumped your butt in the beginning. 99 percent of us on this list were all newbies at one time or another. In fact there is no one on this list who wasn't a newbie at one time and screwed up also. So please stay and things will get better. Just ignore the ones who think they are always correct. I always tell my kids and my husband when they make a crack about someone that "I am sure gald I am not as perfect as your are, you must be awfully lonely up there on your grandstand" That brings them down to earth very quickly! LOL Now lets get off the subject of Joyce and her eyes and lets see if we can help her find her family of BARNES that she is looking for. Tell us what info you have about your Barnes Family and lets see if we can get you on the right track into finding them. Okay folks - Time out on this subject of caps versus small and list netiquette. Let's get back to the purpose of this list and that is genealogy. If anyone has a concern with what is posted to this list, please send your concern to me and I will address it. Let's not have anymore on the list itself. janacortez@charter.net Let's just try and treat everyone as we would like to be treated. None of us are perfect and we all have our strengths and weaknesses. I'd like to see a roll call on this list at this time. Send an email with Surnames in the subject line. In your message please try and give as much information as you can as to the location of the surname and periods of time that they would have been in the area. Let's try and knock down some brick walls here. Jan Cortez
Joyce, There's no reason to unsubscribe just because a few people can't find it in their hearts to be a little more understanding...This is suppose to be a forum for people to help people...My e-mail is meltingicequeen@aol.com if there is anything I can do to help you in your search...I can at least try...
