The rest of you - especially newbies - might want to pay attention too. "Looking for names", "Finding my ancestors", "new to list" etc as email titles will cause a whole lot of busy people to click on their *Delete* buttons without even looking at your email. Give us some help. Try using the surnames you are looking for as the title: KIMBALL - VORCE - MARKLE SMITH, JONES, PETERSON, McMARKOVITKOWSKY in Ingham County Stuff like that. People will pay attention to surnames. Secondly, please tell us: a) What time frame you are looking in. [Searching for someone alive in 1975 is a whole lot different from searching for someone born 1793, for example.] b) Where you already have searched. [Did you check the 1880 or any other Michigan Census? Do you have any birth or death certificates - with parents' names on them? Have you checked the Michigan Marriages website? Have you looked at the "Find-a-Grave" website for gravesite locations? Have you checked newspaper films for obituaries, which can give you loads of further information? If we know where you have looked, we'll be a lot more likely to help you, knowing that we're not just duplicating efforts.] c) Who married who? ["James Sterling JONES married Susie Belle GLUTZ in April of 1893 in Kalamazoo. They had children Isabelle, Humphrey, Amelia, and Gladstone" will get you more help than just a list of surnames will. And might just hook you up with an a cousin really excited about sharing information.] Hope your searches are successful. 2. John
    3. Marilyn- Do you realize that are 34 listings for the name John Leonard in the 1920 Michigan census? If you really want some results, add some more information so that others can help narrow down the right persons. Providing additional information such as; a specific time frame, locations, dates of birth, marriage and death, parents, siblings and children, can make your request for information much easier to help with. Another good suggestion is to include the surnames, time frames and locations in your Subject Line. Good Luck & SISU! 2. Kris Rzepczynski
    3. At the state level, Michigan began recording vital records in April 1867, well before many other states in the U.S. State marriage records from 1867-1925 are available at the Library of Michigan, and the complete run up to the present is at the Michigan Department of Community Health. Many counties recorded marriages before it was done at the state level; availability for those early records depends on the county. County records are available at the county clerk's offices and through the LDS network. Many local genealogical societies have published indexes to those early marriage records for their locality. Check the local library or the Library of Michigan for those materials. Thanks. Vital records have been put on the computer for many years and will soon be available on familysearch.org. I did some records from Isabella County in Michigan a few years ago. A friend is working on Indiana marriage records at this time. I'm doing 1900 census records. However, the LDS church has microfilms of most of the vital records in America and actually much of the world. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    2. Not sure what the official date is, perhaps 1867 when births and deaths started being recorded, but Macomb County has some marriages recorded in 1830. Best place to look at them are a LDS center or the individual county you need.
