    3. I'm wondering if you might be able to help me: My great grandmother Sarah was born abt August 12, 1899 in the Escanaba, Delta area. According to my mom, Sarah was born on a tiny island that you could only get to by boat. Given the date and remote location, I'm not surprised I've been unable to locate any birth records for her... but I might be able to get somewhere if you could help me, if you have marriage info on her parents... I only hope they left the island to be married at a place that kept records! Her parents were Elizabeth (Lizzie) Leonard and John(I think) Montag/Montague. I think they must have been married by 1899, the time of Sarah's birth, but am not certain - as family lore has always treated this in a way that seemed "scandalous". John was apparently French Canadian, no idea on his parents' names. Lizzie was the daughter of Edward and Louisa Leonard/Leonhartsen, immigrants from Norway or Sweden. This marriage only lasted a few years, with only 2 girls (Sarah and Edna) born out of it, and then they divorced. Thank you in advance for any information you can give me on this marriage, Debbie Stotts Long Beach, WA > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2007 10:44:19 -0400 > Subject: [MI-GENEALOGY] Asahel H Woodward > > We maintain the Michigan Marriage Index Database that has the following > record: > > ASAHEL H WOODWARD m LIZZIE - SHOUP in BERRIEN cnty 11 JUL 1901 CTY REC# 0588 > > We do not have a record for Eleaser W. > > If this record is related to you we would like to add your email address as > a reference for other reseachers. > > Jack & Marianne Dibean - Lansing Michigan > GenWeb Archives: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/marriages/michigan/michigan.htm > Email Address: [email protected] > WWII Memorial: www.wwiimemorial.com > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Edward Woodward" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, September 24, 2007 8:38 AM > Subject: [MI-GENEALOGY] (no subject) > > > > Looking for the father of Asahel Woodward. 3. I guess that we got our family members mixed up, as I was looking for someone who had information on the Hortick's, a Joseph born in 1823 or a Soloman Hortick born in 1855, I found Soloman buried in Argyle Cementary in Sanilac county. Thank you so much for getting back to me. Its real refreshing that anyone will take the time to write back. God Bless you, this has not been easy to work on this family when everyone is gone, and this is my first time doing a family tree. 3. Hi. I have a similar situation in my family. Family in Orleans County, NY moved to Erie, PA then the son moved on to the west side of Michigan and joined the Civil War from about the same area as your ancestor. He even spent a little time at the Michigan Soldier's Home in Grand Rapids. Interesting migration... Anyways, I would highly recommend you to order Oren's military pension file. I don't seem to see one listed on the index at ancestry.com, but go to the NARA website and put in as much of your relative's info that you are sure about and then wait. [no charge if they don't find anything.] I just did this with one of my relatives that I knew had some health issues. I submitted his b/m/d, military and other info and, BINGO, they sent me a file I didn't know even really existed!!! Well, if you do happen to get a file, it could contain his wife's name, maybe an affidavit from someone that you can connect the other Oren to, children's names, and his birthplace. Another thing you should do is research Oren's siblings. Sometimes combining all of the family records gives a much more informed picture. Keep us informed of your success. Donna Michigan

    2. Please excuse this response if it is a repeat of other responses. Michigan did not begin recording BDM until 1867, and divorce records date to 1897. I wish earlier records were available - not only in MI - it would help my research a lot. 3. Unless someone had it written in a bible or you can obtain a baptism or christening record, the closest you can probably get might be to locate him with his parents in the 1860 census. State of Michigan didn't start keeping birth records till 1867. Some, please correct me if I'm wrong. There might be a mention in a local newspaper, if someone has put that on microfilm. If you can locate a death record-that should, show his birthdate. Happy hunting. Kathy --- [email protected] wrote: > I should know the answer to this, but I don't.
