    1. [MI-GENEALOGY] Munica, Michigan - READ, George W., Margaret, Lena
    2. mstephen
    3. I have a death certificate for Lena M. Straight who died in Chicago, Ill., in 1955. On the certificate it is stated she was born 30 June 1876 in what looks like Munica, Michigan, to George W. Read and Margaret Burd Read, both supposedly born in Canada (from later census entries for Lena). Apparently Lena herself (and perhaps Margaret) were in Chicago by 1885, as Lena's death certificate says age 78, length of stay 70 years. Lena was also known as Maud, Lena M., Lina. Can someone please help me find where Munica is or was? Is this a misspelling? I am trying to find the birth of this Lena M. Read as well as a marriage of George W. Read and Margaret Burd. So far I have not been able to find anything on them. If I have the right Geo. W. Read, he married again in Missouri about 1883-1884 to Nettie Riddlesbarger, so I am looking for a death of Margaret Burd Read sometime after the birth of Lena and before Geo.'s next marriage (1876 - 1883/84). Are the Michigan vitals indexes online? (I can't find these people in these years on ancestry.com) With the nonexistence for the most part of the 1890 census I cannot see if Lena is then living with Geo. and Nettie. I do find Lena already married to William J. Straight in the 1900 census in Hyde Park, Cook Co., Ill. The Straight family immigrated to the US from England in 1881, so they are not in the 1880 US census. Thanks for any ideas of where to look next. Marie

    3. Well those two cities came off the new Michigan map that i just got as celebration of 50yrs for the Mackinac Bridge.... but I will keep searching...i have old michigan maps...so will see....you know it could have been. and then got renamed..... and if those are on certificates, they have to have the right spelling...it's not like the census being taken where the census taker had to sound out the name...cause the people couldn't spell... patiann mstephen <[email protected]> wrote: Thanks, Patiann. 3. JEAN TED WINKLE is found in (ancestry.com/trees/awt/main.htm). There you will find her and her spouse Fred Vander Laan (her second marriage. Her real spelling is Te Winkle, not TED WINKLE. She was born 31 March, 1911 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and her death was 04 July, 1982 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. What I have been attempting to find was her first marriage, and I only know that the last name was Hutchinson. I'm assuming that the marriage was accomplished in or around. Kent County, Michigan . I do not know the first name. Her second husband's name was Fred Vander Laan and that he was born 14 Feb., 1912 and they were married Oct. 1941 Appreciate any help. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Arda noted as age 1 1/2 years at the time the photograph was taken. I am hoping to locate someone from Arda's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. 3. On just a quick check of these names in the local obits I don't find anything. I think I might try either of the following: 1. Dibean marriage records for Michigan. These are indexed by county. I looked at Bay and Wayne for your names but found no match in either. These records have been compiled by the Dibeans and added to by fellow genealogists. 2. The family forums for each of your surnames. There seems to be a lot of info on the various names. If anyone out there has any info on your individuals these seem to be the places to get matched up. If you are able to find this marriage in Bay or Saginaw counties feel free to drop me a line and I can stop at the court house and get copies or records for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glenys Rasmussen" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 13, 2007 6:59 PM Subject: [MI-GENEALOGY] 1930's Marriage Help Please > Hello: > New to the list and hoping someone can direct me. 3. Hi Dan Queries are free for members others pay 15$ per hour! (huge amount, even with the dollar as low as it is now, nowhere in Holland do they charge that much! Is all of the US that expensive?) I have send a mail to the eprson in charge of the Michigana asking for the authors of the pieces to share info, hopefully that works.
