    1. Re: [MI-GENEALOGY] Fw: Michigan strays in Ontario
    2. JOHN LONG
    3. We are desperately searching for a connection back to "merry ole" England. We are pretty certain that our Great Grandfather was named 'George' Long and was born in England. That he immigrated to Canada, from England, before 1850. He married our Great Grandmother, 'Agnes Armet', who was born in Canada. They produced at least one child…who they named 'George Washington' Long…our Grandfather. 'George Washington' Long was born 30 Mar 1851…we strongly believe, in or round-about Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We know of no siblings of our Grandfather…but we could be surprised. What we are searching for is where in England was our Great Grandfather born? And when was he born? When did he immigrate to Canada? Do we have any connection to the many 'Longs of England'… there were a lot! But we need a link. Any help on this would surely be appreciated.

    3. According to Michigan Place Names: Saganing, Arenac county: it was an Indian settlement until about 1871 when they began to move away and white families began to come in; this village on the Saganing River, in Standish Township, was given a station on the Mackinaw division of the Michigan Central Railroad; Samuel R. Hoobler became its first postmaster on July 26, 1876; the office was closed on July 29, 1878, but was restored on Dec. 16, 1885, but then was transferred to and renamed Worth on Nov. 2, 1886. The Saganing post office was re-established from Feb. 6, 1897 to March 14, 1914. 3. Google "Saganing Michigan". It's in Aranac County, on the east side of the state, east of a line between Standish and Pinconning - very close to Saginaw Bay and maybe 30 miles north of Bay City. Saganing is a reservation community of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. They are in the process of building a new casino, Saganing Eagle's Landing Casino, which they hope to open early this year. Saganing once was a thriving Native community, but before the announcement of the casino plans, it consisted only of a few houses, a church and a community center.
