Hi folks I was wondering if there is any Neufer's on this list. I'm thinking there name started out Newfer In Maryland, The Descendants of Samuel James Newfer and Elizabeth Hamilton I was told that Samuel and Elizabeth died in 1860 in Ohio of food poisoning but some of the kids lived. And where farmed out and some came to Michigan and there name change to Neufer ???? Thanks Dave

This could be of interest to - and within reach of - Michigan researchers. There are loads of interesting-looking choices, and it is not limited to Ontario research. Check it out. Jann, When you looked through the 1870 census, did you try spelling variations? Second idea is research the census for other states. Many families were disrupted during the Civil War and were forced to relocate for a variety of reasons. I would look to the state or states where the individuals were born. Good luck in your searches. Tim Michigan **************Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape. http://body.aol.com/fitness/winter-exercise?NCID=aolcmp00300000002489
My grand father's whole family was on the 1860 census. None of them were on the 1870 census. We have a date of 18 March 1866 as the death of his father. it was given to us by a cousin who has since disappeared into internet space. I am looking to see if I can find any family after 1860. The children were baptized in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit but I can't find where any of them is buried except 2 brothers as adults and one sister as a 14 year old in New York state. I thought a 1865 census might give me the names of any one alive at that time. The marriages you are looking for are too recent to be found on microfilm at the Library of Michigan (the Archives does not have vital record information). You can contact the Detroit City Clerk's office to find out how to obtain copies of the marriage records you want. Or you can contact the Michigan Department of Community Health<http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645---,00.html>in Lansing, the statewide keeper of the records. Try contacting the Department of Human Services through the Michigan government in Lansing. http://www.michigan.gov/dhs If you contact them, maybe they can point you in the direction that you need to look at. They may know of an Adventist adoption agency from 1904. They have information on agencies that are closed and where their paperwork is being held. Access to birth records is restricted if they're less than 100 years old, in Michigan. Good luck.
