I have been on the list of this web site for several months. I had run into my "Brick Wall" trying to find the reason for the death of a Great Uncle who died at the age of 28. After reading your message, I tried your suggestion to someone else to look at seakingmichigan.com - Lo & Behold - I found my G uncle's death certificate there! I had tried everyother web site I had heard of with no results. Thank you so much. I think my brain fell asleep there for a minute..... it is http://seekingmichigan.org (NOT .com) and I can't remember why I said it was available only to Michigan residents. Probably thinking of the HeritageQuest site available only to Michigan residents through the Library of Michigan. Time for bed. Try contacting the County Clerk at the Van Buren County Courthouse for his death registration. An online Google search might show you their website, complete with contact information. Have you contacted the County Clerk at the Oakland County Courthouse? They should be able to give you that information, even if you choose not to invest in a death certificate. You can narrow it down some by assuming that he died after - but possibly not long after - 1920. They were very helpful when I was researching down there. Probably there is a website online for them with contact information. Google "Oakland County Clerk" or some such and see what you find. Hello to all, I am in need of assistance in locating information on an ancestor of mine. Randolph Dimick/Dimmick/Demick was a Civil War Vet, but I have no dates on him. He served from Indiana and Ohio through out the war, mustered out in Tennessee, and came to live in Michigan, visiting his youngest sister Almira Louise Dimick Peek in Saint Joseph County. Uncle Doll as he was known moved to Montcalm County according to family stories. I found him residing in Ensley City in neighboring Newaygo County, in the 1890 Special Veterans Census. I found that he was buried in the Reynolds Township Cemetery, but his marker only has him serving in Ohio Heavy Artillery, and no dates. I have no clue where he died or when, or how to go about looking for his death. I live in Indiana. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate hearing from you. I will be making a trip to Merritt in Missaukee County, next week, I hope, to visit my Uncle's grave. I want to stop and photograph Randolph's grave, while I am in the area. Thanks to all. I am searching for an obituary for Charles Wing, whose last residence that I can find, in 1920, was Royal Oak, Oakland County, Michigan, in the household of his son, Parthenius Wing. His wife, Harriet, died in 1909 and is buried in the Mount Avon Cemetery, Rochester Oakland County Michigan. Seeking Michigan only goes to 1920; I have written to various places in Rochester, but have not been successful in locating Charles' date of death. Thank you for any information -
Pat, Obits often tell where he is laid to rest... start there. IF not, the funeral homes have records of where he was interred. Just a thought. Pat, the only thing is that there are many cemetaries and funeral homes in Grand Rapids. So, you might want to grab some coffee and be prepared to make a lot of calls.
