    1. [MI-GENEALOGY] Tormey akd Settlemier
    2. Eileen Sullivan
    3. I am looking for suggestions as where to locate information on the following person - she is our brick wall. June Tormey or (Settlemier) born 8 Jun 1922. She is the daughter of Josephine Tennant and George Dewey Settlemier. The mother died mysteriously in Detroit on 10 Oct 1927and is buried in Parkview Cemetery in Detroit. The father left the children in Detroit, going back to Oregon and started another family. The last I found of June was on the 1930 census living with her grandmother, Olive Tormey. The children were never formally adopted. The four children scattered - We do not know who she married if she did. The last we know of June, is that she was mentioned in her brother's (George Tormey) obituary when he died in 1987. No last name was referenced but that she lived in Detroit. So, one of my questions, would be is there a marriage index for MI that lists maiden names and/or a death index that would reference her maiden name. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Eileen Sullivan Tormey/New Hampshire

    3. Were my in-laws married? Or weren't they??? They did wear rings!! Here is my problem.... they are from Southern Illinois. All the areas around there (checked each county court) do not show them married in Illinois. They gave birth to my husband in Highland Park in 1949. Two living relatives remember hearing something about being married in Michigan. The closest record I have is they were married Sept (20) 1946... because... my father in law died in July 1976 and my mother in law was heard saying that they would have been married 30 years in September. I found the date in another family history booklet, but the authors have no idea where they found the "20th" (the author is now 93) So... without spending a fortune writing each county (paying the search fees which I hear run anywhere from $25 - $45 each) in the Detroit area... Is there someone out there that could at least narrow down this information as to where they were married and confirm a date? I don't know if there is a database out there that lists marriages in the 40's, or if there is someone who has one of those paid subscriptions to those "vital records checks" that would not mind doing a look up for me? Or if someone works with or visits these county courts? Any help in this 2+ year search would greatly be appreciated.... The hair is turning gray by the day and close to being pulled out! LOL Groom: Robert Abner Heyl b. 14 Apr 1918 d. 14 July 1976 Bride: Frances Lela Plate b. 14 Feb 1919 d. 19 Dec 1997 Thank you so much in advance... it is one of those last tidbits that can put this issue to rest, once and for all! Sincerely, Megan

Talks have been held between Governor Granholm and "a local university" as to the possibility of the Library of Michigan collection being held elsewhere. ? FACT - Other states have closed libraries and archives - including Ohio. ? FACT - Budget Director Robert Emerson in his message of 5 May said that he hoped this present cut/Executive Order would hold through the end of the fiscal year, but had fears that it would not, if the economy worsened or GM went into bankruptcy. ? 1. [MI-GENEALOGY] Adoption Question
    2. Pat
    3. I would like to know if anyone can help me on an adoption research?  First off I am looking for information on a Lenora Bolde born 1918 in Detroit, Father Harry Bolde born 1897 in Detroit,  and mother Florence Sanford born 1899 in Canada.   Lenora was found in the 1920 census living with her mom and grandparents William and Bertha Sanford.  I can not find her in the 1930 census and I am wandering if maybe another man adopted her because her father Harry Bolde went to prison and maybe her mom remarried and maybe that man adopted Lenora Bolde.   Does anyone know if it is possible to find adoption records for the 1920's and where do I look?   I would appreciate any helPat

    1. [MI-GENEALOGY] Re Seeking Michigan site
    2. Jmb32
    3. I learned of the "seeking Michigan" site thru this list. I've had some success in getting death records and want to thank you for leading me to this site. I do have a problem, perhaps someone can help me. I am researching a surname that is the same as a Michigan county name. How can I search that name without getting the names of everyone who is listed in the county ? Thanks June

I haven't been able to find a Lutheran cemetery on line. Any help is most appreciated. Thanks so much.
