    1. [MEYORK] Freemen of Mass,1630-1691.............DENNET/DENNETT/ various spelling Dennell/Dennel ?
    2. Ron: It's possible as spelling was not standard in the early days of US....Dennell may be worth checking into before tossing it aside. -- Here are some early Dennett (various spellings)names you could check out; ----- ** PIONEERS OF NEW HAMPSHIRE AND MAINE; Pope, Boston,1908 DINALL: John of Portsmouth (NH), took oath of fidelity in court 1659 (Dinall sounds similiar to Dennell) - DENNET/DENNETT: *John of Portsmouth,NH (carpenter), may have come early as 1660; freeman of Massachusetts Bay Colony, 15 May 1670 (as of Portsmouth}; wife Amy, children were John 1675; Amy 1679 (mar.John Adams); Joseph 1681; Emphriam b.1689. John died May 1,1709,"ae.63 years". ALEXANDER DENNETT who settled about 1670 at Newcastle (also NH) is believed to be brother of John. Will signed "John Dennet",March 17 and proved Aug 1,1709; wife,"Ammi",sons John,Joseph, and Emphriam, and daughters, "Ammi"Adams; great granddau. Margaret Adams; great dau. Mary Dennett "who is blind". ----------------------------------------------------------------- FYI: Newcastle is an island just off shore near Portsmouth...lovely area... Portsmouth is 14 miles from Maine....so would think these families are worth checking out. Am wondering if these early Dennett/Dennet are related to your Thomas in spite of them being in New Hampshire. ------------- Book: Directory of the Heads of New England Families,1620-1700, Frank Holmes, New York,1923: *DENNETT: 1. Alexander,b.1639, was at Portsmouth,NH 1670 2. John, carpenter, brother of Alexander, was at Portsmouth,1670 (NO Dennel/Dennell listed) --------------------------------------- book: RAMBLES ABOUT PORTSMOUTH (NH); Charles Brewster,Portsmouth,1869 * "old land proprietors" the families that kept the original localities (in 1869) are: Odiorne Pickering Seavey March Pierce Moses Whidden Langdon DENNETT Jackson Drake Johnson Berry Weeks Haines Packer Brackett Rand and others............ No Dennell/Dennel -------------------------------------------------------------- same book: Rambles in Portsmouth: 1806 a Capt.WIlliam DENNETT sold land to the United States for an establishment of a navy yard for $5,500 ----------------------------------- Hope this helped.....
