    3. Hi listers, I apologize up front to those of you who subscribe to multiple lists and will receive this more than once. But, thought I would save those of you who have HeritageQuest images online through Godfrey and other libraries, or who have ancestry.com, the trouble of writing same when you discover that 1900 census index is unavailable to you. Images browseable, however, just no index. I was so elated when I logged onto HQO the other day through New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and saw 1900 had been added to the list of available censuses. But, I got a message that it was accessible only through my affiliate library when I tried to do a search. That means IN the library, BTW, not remotely accessing through library online. I wrote NYGBS and got the following response when I asked why it was restricted. Also said I hoped 1840, 1850, and 1930 won't be restricted indexes, too, when they are finally done by HeritageQuest. Here is answer I got: Apparently Genealogy.com has exclusive rights to the 1900 on-line index, so the Godfrey Library would not have it through their HQO subscription either. This is the only year with this restriction, so the other missing indexes should eventually be posted to the database. It is possible that ProQuest will develop their own index, but we have not received any information regarding that. I truly regret this inconvenience, but for the foreseeable future it seems that we will not have access to the 1900 index. So this says to me that ancestry.com will not have index either for 1900. FYI, Toby Hurley
