We have Mary Jane BRENNAN, dau of William & Mary Jane, born (according to her marriage record & 1900 census) 1872 or 1874 in Salmon Falls, ME. She later married Charles Pembun 1892 in Lynn, MA & had 4 children. All children stated in their census records that their mother was born Maine. Several years ago, someone on this list directed me to the one time community on both sides of the Salmon River in either Hollis or Buxton. But Buxton has no records of Brennans. One of Hollis' 19th century record books has been AWOL for a long time. I didn't find Brennan in their other book; nor did I find any Irish names. It occurred to us that they might have been Catholic & might have baptized Mary Jane in the nearest Catholic Church which would probably have been one of two in Biddeford.... St. Mary of the Assumption 1858 12 St.Mary St. 04005 or St. Joseph 1870 43 Center St. 04005 Could someone tell me if 19th century birth records would be kept at these 2 churches or would they have been sent to the diocese?
